Hello,
for some month a'm having some problems with a SBS2011 installation. I need to get SP1 working but can't figure out a way to fix the errors i have.
The update starts but after the reboot it reverts everything back because something failed.
The CBS Log shows this:
So if i read it correctly the problem is that the updated trys to install a newer WUDFUsbccidDriver.inf driver but fails. OK the WUDFUsbccidDriver.inf is for smart card devices, no such thing is installed. And this thing is a windows core driver, so nothing i can try to update on its own.
SFC /Scannow doesn't find any errors.
One thing i can tell is this server has a history. 3 years ago a failed script deleted the whole %windir%\system32 folder. The server worked normal for quite some time till it was noticed, but there was not longer a backup available to recover the system 32 folder. After copying a system32 folder from another SBS2011, and 3 - 5 runs auf SFC /Scannow the server was back in a normal state and since then it worked without anything happening.
Under System32 there is the DriverStore\FileRepository folder in there is a folder with the WUDFUsbccidDriver.inf. So i'm thinking it could be a problem with how the file is registered, maybe the file copied from a different system was another version?
The last solution would be to make a fresh install of the server and migrate everything from the old installation. But I hope that there is a way to sort this driver error out and maybe get the servicepack installation to finish.
Maybe someone with a better knowledge of the windows update an driver system can help me out.
