Hello,

i have the following Problem with a Small Business Server 2011.

Windows Update is searching forever for Updates and i can´t view the Server Manager because of Error 0x800706be.
The only Workaround, i found so far is the System Update Readiness Tool but that is also stuck on the Search for Updates on the Server.

Thanks in Advance for your Help.

Please do the following.

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Is there an Option in FRST to ignore the german Language and use the English as Language in the Program?

Yes, just rename FRST64.exe to EnglishFRST64.exe and run it. Do you want to try again that way to see if the results are different?

Doesn´t seem to help.
It seems that the txt is in the UTF-8 Format and it should be in Unicode.
Is there an Option for the Logs?

Thanks for the info. Please do the following.

1. Click your Start button and type cmd in the search box. Right-click on cmd from the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes if the UAC prompt comes up.
2. Copy/Paste the following in to the command-prompt window and hit enter.
wmic qfe list brief /format:texttablewsys > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\hotfix.txt"

3. This will create a file on your desktop named hotfix.txt. Please attach this to your next reply.

I get the Message "Keine Instanzen verfügbar" which translates to "No Instances available"

OK, let's try this differently. Please do the following.

Remove Update Manually
 1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:2667402

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

I get the Error code 0x800706be.

So you are using WSUS to get your updates instead of directly through Microsoft, is that correct?

WSUS is installed on the Server but right now the Server is using Windows Update directly.
The Server i am using for the Tests is a virtual Machine (offline) because the "real" one is still in use.
When the Fixes work, i will test them on the real Server.
If this could be a Problem, i would check if i could get the virtual Server online.
The Problem with the Search for Updates is with WSUS and Windows Update directly.

Can you run System Update Readiness Tool on the live server and post me the results?

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hello,
i was just testing the Fixes from you on the virtual Machine after i made a clone from the affected Server.
The CBS Log and the Description in the first Post is from the physical Server.
Sorry for the Mixup.

Understood. But I still need you to run SURT from the production server. It doesn't appear that it was able to finish when you initially did it. You may need to find a time to reboot the server and then run SURT.

That doesn´t work.
Even after a fresh Start or in safe Mode with WSUS or Windows Update directly it get stuck at "Suche nach Updates auf diesem Computer" which means something like Searching for Updates on this Computer.
