Hey,

Windows 8.1 Pro (6.3.9600.17031). I ran into ntfs corruptions (probably bad sata cable or driver issue) and got my system files damaged.

Microsoft update is working fine though and the system seems to be stable now. Eventlogs are quite clean. SFCFix says: "AutoAnalysis:: SUMMARY: No corruptions were detected. AutoAnalysis:: directive completed successfully."

But in fact I now have a state that is in-between.

Running DISM /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth says: "can be repaired".
Running DISM /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth says: "can be repaired".
Running DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth says: Error: 0x800f081f - no action taken.

CBS Log excerpt:
Operation: Detect and Repair
Operation result: 0x0
Last Successful Step: Entire operation completes.
Total Detected Corruption: 114
CBS Manifest Corruption: 29
CBS Metadata Corruption: 10
CSI Manifest Corruption: 28
CSI Metadata Corruption: 0
CSI Payload Corruption: 47
Total Repaired Corruption: 0
CBS Manifest Repaired: 0
CSI Manifest Repaired: 0
CSI Payload Repaired: 0
CSI Store Metadata refreshed: True

Total Operation Time: 668 seconds.

Eventlog says: 0 of 114 systemstore errors have been repaired.

If required I might be able to pull a WinSxS folder from a backup.

I attached DISM and CBS logs. SFCFix.txt containts no additional info.

I'd like to have a better understanding why DISM is unable to pull required files from WU or the install DVD.

Thanks for your support,:thumbsup2:

Hey Go The Power,

thanks for taking on my case. :thumbsup2: I attached the requested log. It contains more than one SFC run as you will see. I kept the extra runs before. Maybe they provide additional information.

Here's the log as plain text file with the latest results only.
Previous post with big ZIP file might contain more information, though.

Hello again,

This might be a little more tough than I imagined, i should be able to repair it fine, it might just take a couple of rounds.

SFCFix script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Go to your desktop and right click on the background -> Select New -> Text Document -> Name this file SFCFixScript.txt.
  3. Open up SFCFixScript.txt and copy all of the following text inside the code box below and paste it into SFCFixScript.txt.
    Code:
    Trace::
    wow64_microsoft.windows.powershell.common_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.17401_none_2c45c4552352d08a

    FileScan::
    Pending.GRL
  4. Click on File -> Save. Close out of SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  6. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  7. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  8. SFCFix will now process the script.
  9. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  10. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Can you please go the following location C:\Windows\System32\config and look for the following files:
-COMPONENTS
-Any other files that start with the word COMPONENTS
-Or any files that have a similar name to COMPONENTS (it could be spelt different, have a number, a symbol etc)
If you find any please create a folder on your desktop and copy and paste all these files into this folder.
Next can you please zip this folder -> Please name this zip file to COMPONENTS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.zip For example "COMPONENTS_Go The Power_1803.Zip"
Once done, upload them for me to analyze. The file may be too big to attach to this post, please use either Dropbox or One Drive.

Hey Go The Power,

wow, it really seems to be a hard one. I did as you said and SFCFix crahed with an unhandled exception.

I zipped the COMPONENTS files. COMPONENTS.LOG* has not been written since 2013! .blf an regtrans-ms have been updated some days ago. I'll send you the ondrive link as PM.

I also zipped the only folder in WinSxS containing "PENDING.GRL". I'll send you the ondrive link as PM as well.

BTW: What db format is COMPONENTS. Some kind of SQL express?

[EDIT]: I noticed that I have a very "impressive" WinSxS/Temp/InFlight folder containing 12.078 sub folders. Is that normal?

PendingDeletes contains two files:
$$DeleteMe.malgunmc.ttf.01d007013e3aaa87.0000 --- 03.10.2014
$$DeleteMe.WTVGOTHIC-S.ttc.01d007013e8ebf20.0003 --- 003.10.2014

Pending Renames contains 14.046 elements!

Well, might I just have this problem for a looong time without really noticing it?

Regards,
MrG

One small addition: File change times in PendingRenames match the first time I used SFCFix.exe or later.

Hello again MrG
BTW: What db format is COMPONENTS. Some kind of SQL express?

It is a registry hive :), prety much everything you see inside the registry is linked to a physical file. The registry or regedit is like a viewer for these file, the same way word is a viewer for .doc files.

I noticed that I have a very "impressive" WinSxS/Temp/InFlight folder containing 12.078 sub folders. Is that normal?

PendingDeletes contains two files:
$$DeleteMe.malgunmc.ttf.01d007013e3aaa87.0000 --- 03.10.2014
$$DeleteMe.WTVGOTHIC-S.ttc.01d007013e8ebf20.0003 --- 003.10.2014

Pending Renames contains 14.046 elements!

We will need to address this as well.

Hey Go The Power,

here's the requested log. The command was

C:\WINDOWS\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth /source:C:\disk_N\Windows\winsxs
(Source is the winsxs backup I had.)

When I look at the contents it seems there's a lot of work done. However, there is no result. Log contains 3+ dism runs including a service autorun last night.

I wonder what causes

  1. [HRESULT = 0x800f0900 - CBS_E_XML_PARSER_FAILURE] many times
  2. SQM: Warning: Failed to get machine name. The data won't be available. [HRESULT = 0x80070002 - ERROR_FILE_NOT_FOUND]
  3. Corrupted Payloads
  4. Missing Packages

... and especially the inability to replace the missing or corrupted files from WU or the install DVD. Can you shed some light?

Regards,
MrG

One more thing ;-)

I ran dism /online /cleanup-image /analyzecomponentstore and it said Error: 0x800f0900

Hey Go The Power,

can I supply anything else to get this miserable issue resolved or understand what in detail keeps the component store from getting (self-)repaired?

Hello again,

Sorry for the delay.

So here's the XML parser error. But can you tell, what actually produces that error?

There are two files with a XML format, .mum files and .manifest files. This error means either a mum/manifest file is corrupt. DISM has confirmed that there are few mum files corrupt.

These are the errors detected by DISM (this will take a few rounds)

Hey Go The Power,

looks to me like it is getting better according to the CBS.log down below, right?
I look forward to the next round. :thumbsup2:

Code:
2015-05-15 20:32:02, Info CBS SQM: Upload callback called with file path: C:\WINDOWS\servicing\sqm\CBSScavengeSession_0_std.sqm, status: 0x0, HTTP response: 403

And as requested the latest CBS.log attached.

Hey again,

thanks for the fix.zip!

I recovered one additional manifest from a backup and in total the corruption count is down to 97.

Here's in addition the CBS.log created by the last DISM run.

And thanks for the extra clarification you gave. I know know how to access a registry hive and where the XML parser error originates.

Can you also give some insight why this is:

Code:
2015-05-19 22:57:36, Info CBS SQM: CheckSur: hrStatus: 0x800f0906 [CBS_E_DOWNLOAD_FAILURE], download Result: 0x800f0941 [CBS_E_WU_MAPPING_UNAVAILABLE]

Is the "windows update mapping" broken or is the file just not included in WU?

Regards,
MrG

And (as it might help?) here's also the result of

dism /online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore

which fails with

Meanwhile I ran /AnalyzeComponentStore dozens of times and one by one replaced corrupted mums in servicing with working ones from another Windows 8 system.

Finally AnalyzeComponentStore was able to complete successfully. I'll see how things are going now and post back later.

Hey Go The Power,

here is the status:

DISM /online /cleanup-image /analyzecomponentstore runs ok !

DISM /online /cleanup-image /analyzecomponentstore returns Error: 14098 !

DISM /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth gives: Error 0x800f081f Error when reparing. Either the reapir source was not found or the store is corrupt.

I attached both DISM.log and CBS.log.

Well, Go The Power, that's the point where you come in ... :thumbsup2:

Regards,
MrG
