Hi,

I have after the monthly update of January problems with all the monthly updates, February, March and April.
All the updates give currently: error 800736B3.
I hope you can help me solving my update problem?
I want to thanks you in advance.

I am using Windows 7 Dutch version, fully patched with the exception of the above montly updates (February, March and April).
I am using: Avira Free virus scanner.
The problem is on my HP laptop: Core i7 2620M, 16GB, 500GB

It is the Monthly updates and also the preview updates that goes wrong. All other updates seems to be installed correctly.

I tried serveral things that I found on the the internet, all without solving my update problem.
The main one I tried was the one below, a Mircosoft items.

I understand that you have issues in installing one particular update. So, Please try to follow these steps to fix the issue.

Method 1: Try to reset Windows update components and check if it fixes the issue. This might help you in changing the status of the updates.

I reversed to an old recovery point, because it did not help.

Then I tried to remove the latest succesful monthly KB4057400. And tried to install the KB4074598.
This was not able to be install: error code 800736B3
I installed the KB4057400 again. This was installed without problems.
Then I tried to install KB4093118, but that gave also: error code800736B3

Update:

Removing Java 8 let me install: KB4075211

But after the successful installation of KB4075211, the instalation of: KB4074598 still fails.

Removing Adobe flash player. Did not solve the failing installation either.

New attempt:
Checking the the complete system for virus and malware. The scanning did not found any detection of a virus or malware.

New try of running: "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /scanhealth" in an elevated command prompt.
Below the printout of DISM command, that gave:

When install the latest montly update: "2018-04 Beveiliging - Maandelijkse kwaliteitsrollup voor Windows 7 voor op x64 gebaseerde systemen (KB4093118)", after more then 30 failed installation attempts before, finnaly installed successful.

At the moment a new scan for updare is currently being executed.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your reply.

If you can advice/help me? That would be very much appresiated.
At the moment, I don't know if you need new printouts/log files? If needed, please tell me? Please tell me which ones you need? I will add them to this post.

So if you can help me at this moment with:
- why I see the same updates again, and why these are old updates?
- why it is trying to install these same updates again and again?
If you can help me with solving this? That would be great.
And maybe you know? and or you can tell me how to tell that the system is healthy again?

But at this point, your advice can also be? Let is run for a few days so that the automatic update can do his job.
Then after some days if it is still not working as expected, please report in this post.

We can also do that, wait for a few days to see how my laptop reacts?
Again, any advice is helpful and very appresiated!
But I don't want to spend your valuable time unnecessary.

For now:
The monthly update KB4093118 is installed as completed.
When searching for new updates I now get failed: 0x80070002.
When looking at "windows update" The system tries to install the same updates as those are installed before?
The updates concern are 8 important updates (FYI: dd-mm-yyyy):
KB4093118, release date 23-4-2018
KB2871997, release date 13-5-2014 ==> ? old update ?
KB3004375, release date 10-2-2015 ==> ? old update ?
KB3011780, release date 18-11-2014 ==> ? old update ?
KB3031432, release date 14-5-2015 ==> ? old update ?
KB3046269, release date 14-4-2014 ==> ? old update ?
KB3068708, release date 9-6-2015 ==> ? old update ?
KB3184143, release date 11-10-2016 ==> ? old update ?
When shutting down the system, the system is showing the explanation mark to install udates and shutdown.

Below snipping capture printout of the installed updates, the bottom list of failure of KB4093118 is much longer.
So strange that I see the old updates 2014, 2015 and 2016 and that it wants to install them again, even because they are already installed?

Thank you very much.

Hi,

Sorry for the little delay:
I could not perform the "sfc /scannow".
Trying it for more then a hour, now.

Microsoft Windows [versie 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. Alle rechten voorbehouden.
C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow
Systeemcontrole wordt gestart. Dit proces kan enkele minuten duren.
De aangevraagde bewerking kan niet worden uitgevoerd.
C:\Windows\system32>

I received the above message. This means (something like):
System check will be started. This can take some minutes.
The requested action can not be executed
A reboot of the laptop did not release the function. So I needed to wait.

I install the pending/waiting updates, again.
After that I still could run the "sfc /scannow" command, see message above?

I have attached the current logfile "CBS.log" CBS_20180429.zip without running the "sfc /scannow" command.

No idea why the command will not be runned.
I will keep trying to run the command.
When succeed I will attach the logfile.

Regards,
Manfred

3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload toa file sharing service and just provide the link here.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

A few years ago I was not interested in Windows 10 because it was not stable enough to humble my opinion.

Now I am not sure anymore?
If you would advice me to go to windows 10 I will take that into account.

But the free upgrade program is stopped, isn't it?
Or?
I have now the Windows 7 Pro version, will it then be updated to Windows 10 Pro version?

Please advice me? What you should do?

Thank you very much.

Regards,
Manfred

As long as it's activated, it will work. I've been using Win10 from day one and have had no stability issues whatsoever. Yes, you will get the Pro version.

The upgrade process is extremely straightforward:

1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
2. Accept the License Agreement
3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We want to get the ISO so that you don't have to keep downloading which can take hours.

Hi,

I will going to try this this weekend.
Thank you.

I want to make a backup from my laptop first.

I will let you know the result after coming weekend.

How it is solved:

With the Sysinternal Suite installed I used "psexec" to start the regedit with system privilege. psexec need to be started from an elivated command shell.
psexec -i -d -s c:\Windows\RegEdit.exe
As regedit is runned I went to searching for the above key like: prnky006.inf and kykc4000.ppd
prnky006.inf was found. kykc4000.ppd was not found, and that is inline we the above error, because those are missing. I search on a healthy Windows 7 system and found the missing keys in:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMPONENTS\DerivedData\Components\amd64_prnky006.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_3ee7affd389bdbca]
I created the 3 missing keys manually in the register:

"sfc /scannow" Gave no errors.
I rebooted and tried to install the updates. But the montly updates where still failing.

I runned the SUR tool again.
