Hello belle and welcome to sysnative forums

A lot of the time windows update errors appear from corrupt/missing update files. Lets take a look to see if that's the issue is here:

Download and run System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

  • Please go Here and download the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT). Save this file to your desktop
  • Go to your desktop and run KB947821
  • When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Hello Belle.

SURT is not detecting that file as being corrupt any more which is a good sign, but SFC has picked up another corruption that has to be fixed.

Code:
\SystemRoot\WinSxS\wow64_microsoft-windows-ie-htmlrendering_31bf3856ad364e35_8.0.7600.16700_none_94987b52e700d29c\mshtml.dll

Hi xilolee, I guess you are having this trouble also. But, from what I have read, you have to start a new thread. I hope you get your problem fixed!!! Belle

Good grief, it tried to update. But, it wouldn't. It said I had to update the updater. I clicked Install Now. Sooooo, now it says Error Code 80070643!!!!

Hi Belle,

We have a few things to try but the error in which you are receiving is a bit of a hard one to fix.

Click on Start -> in the search field type in Services.msc -> Right click and choose Run as Administrator -> go down until you see Windows Modules Installer -> Double
  1. Double click on the service.
  2. If the server is Stopped please click on Start
  3. Set the startup type to Automatic
  4. Restart the computer and try and update again

If it fails please continue.

First, start an Elevated Command Prompt: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/wind...vista-7-a.html
and copy and paste in the following:

fsutil resource setautoreset true %SystemDrive%\

attrib -r -s -h %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*
del %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\TxR\*

attrib -r -s -h %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*
del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.tm*
del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.blf
del %SystemRoot%\System32\SMI\Store\Machine\*.regtrans-ms

Try windows update again, if it fails please continue.

Please go navigate to C:\Windows\winsxs and copy any files with a similar name to pending.xml (e.g. pending.xml, pending.xml.bad, pending.xml_dfsadf78 etc.) to your folder on the Desktop [there may not be any, just if there are].

Also, this will take a little time but if your up for it I would like to have you do a few extra things to see if we can find the cause of this error for future users that come along.

Please go Here and download Process Monitor -> Save the file to your desktop.

Double click on Process Monitor -> Press Yes on the UAC -> you should now have a Filter box appeared -> Select Process Name in the first box -> Is in the second -> and msiexec.exe in the last -> press Ok

Now click on File -> Capture Events (make sure this is ticked)

Run sfc /scannow once SFC has finished please continue.

Click on File -> Save -> save the file to your desktop.

Now go to your desktop and you should see a file called Logfile.pml -> please but it in a Zip file -> and upload it for me to have a read. As the file is going to be quite big please use Dropbox or ge.tt.

Hi GTP, well THANK YOU,Praise the Lord!! The updates ARE working. It took the second step to do it. Everytime I download the Process Monitor it comes as a zip. I extract i,t but there is no UAC or Yes to click on.. What am I doing wrong? A box pops up and in the box is EULA Text Document, procmon--Complied HTML, and Procmon Application. When I double click it wants me to run or save the file......:banghead:

P.S. In the million files in that winsxs, I didn't see any of the ones you listed. I guess that was a good thing? Thank you. Belle

Hi Belle,

That is really good news about your updates, Its good to hear they are installing now :)

Try right clicking on Procmon -> Run as Admin. If it opens please follow the previous instructions.

If not please re run SFC /SCANNOW and post a cbs.log file

Alex
