Windows Vista Ultimate Update Error Code 80070490

Hi,

I cannot update Windows Vista and I receive an error code: 80070490. Nothing I've done helps. Just tell me what you need from me. Can you help?

Also, my computer freezes up and "sticks" every time I'm on it. See attached pic. What is this doing, and how do I fix this? Suggestions?

Please downloadand save the CheckSUR tool from Fix Windows Update corruption errors such as 0x80070002 and 0x80070057
(you'll need tolook in the details for Windows Vista, downloading from the Microsoft DownloadCenter)

Run it - The toolcan take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install')depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear tofreeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result islogged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip theCheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

That looks OK - unfortunately, my record with 0490 errors isn't great, so I'll shout for help from other who may have a better chance of success (and scrounge what I can from their knowledge!)

Someone should get back to you soon, hopefully - if not, shout!!
 
Looks like everyone is busy :(

The CBS.log contains a mass of errors like this one...

I need to have a
look at your COMPONENTS registry hive


Please copy the
C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension)
to your desktop and
then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site
(preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

 
Tried, but it won't copy & paste to desktop. I don't understand the errors you provided. Should I take my computer somewhere to get fixed?
 
If it won't copy, then it's in use, which implies corruption.
Please reboot to Safe Mode (which will prevent it loading) and then copy the file to the desktop - you can then reboot to Normal Mode, and compress and upload the file.
