Recently, with the introduction of SHA 2 tagged Windows Update, Windows Vista is not accepting many updates via WU or manually. Also there seems to be division between Windows Vista tagged WU and Server updates..... so much so that server updates are not getting accepted in Vista via WU and if installed manually, one has to un-install it or go back via System Restore.

However, WSUS offline update ver 9.2.6 does list out server updates along with other updates for installation. Not attempted WSUS offline update to do the run as it is feared that server updates if installed may create start up or stability problems. But from the list of updates, further 14 (non-server) updates (which were not picked up by WU) could be manually installed.

Why WU did not pick these updates remains a question ?

Also around 99 server updates can be seen in WSUS Offline list that WU has not picked up. For a Home PC, are these 99 server updates needed or not is something that remains to be seen. We may have to wait for a new version of WSUS offline to see what it comes up with. The list of 99 server updates for Vista 32 bit is attached.

Vista is no longer supported but something seems to be going on in WU servers at MS. Lets wait and watch.

By the way, Windows Vista Starter 32 bit is doing very well on my desktop Home PC.
And the one that is working cannot be labeled as obsolete. Never give up !

There is nothing further to it. This thread when read may be marked as - Resolved.

Yes Vista is no longer supported. At best, it may be labeled as out-dated but not obsolete.
It still works!
And it serves the purpose.Worth it!

Hi!

The Windows Update system does not offer or install updates which have either been pulled or have been covered by another update. Users should use supported software and stick to what Windows Update reports to them.
