This is a FEEDBACK on Windows Vista Starter 32 bit.
During re-installation of Windows Vista Starter 32 bit, it was noticed that the computer went on BSOD
with error A5 ( 0x11, 0x06, 0x00, 0x00 ) with every boot/start.
After making a thorough check on drivers, hardware, OS, etc, no immediate root cause for BSOD
was found except damages due to lightning strike but once that is addressed (hardware issues)
there was still something left to do with system stability.
Windows Update was done - No New Updates.
All kinds of Virus, spyware, malwares, leftover files, registry errors, system file errors were checked--No errors.
Finally, WSUS offline (ver 9.2.5) was run and it was found that the following 5 updates were missing --
KB4018271
KB4018466
KB4021903
KB4024402
KB4019204
These were checked on Knowledge Base Articles & downloaded from Microsoft Catalog Update and / or google search
and downloaded from Microsoft web-page for manual installation.
The problem of BSOD on computer boot / start vanished.
The computer now works like a charm -- starts and shutdowns like a TV.
These 5 updates made Windows Vista Starter 32 bit very stable.
Now the question is -- Why Windows Update did not or could not offer these updates ?
How come WSUS Offline had these updates but not Windows Update?
It is suggested that although support for Windows Vista starter 32 bit has ended, these 5 updates seem to be very important
and must be offered via Windows Update for successful OS installation. But that is for Microsoft to decide and act.
Never give up on a system that is still working. My Desktop Computer was bought in 2009 and works till date (2019)
.... and onwards ... it is gaining "Vintage" value. Old is Gold!
