So, i've been having trouble with a friend's laptop, and i pretty much have gone through everything i know, and a LOT of googling and nothing!

I have installed Windows Vista x86 Home Basic, all went well(even if i find it weird that the hard drive is partitioned in 140gb for c: and a 9gb for d: ) BUT when it comes to install updates.....it has been a real challenge! a lot of updates would not install, a lot of errors, which, with a lot of patiente i've been able to surpass, except for one! the update KB938371(which, if i am correct, is vital to install SP1) will not install for anything, always giving me error 80073712... I don't know what else to do, because i feel like i've done everything already, and since i already formatted the damn computer about 3 or 4 times in the last week, i was so hoping that i wouldn't have to do it again!

My CBS folder is attached, and i would love to do the same for my components file but it says it's open someplace else and i can't copy it! Still, it has 17,2Mb, and when i open it on regedit it is not empty at all.

Please someone help me, because never before a computer was such a challenge for me! :banghead:

Hi Pedro, and welcome to Sysnative,

You have a very interesting log, with some line styles I've not seen before.

This is of particular interest:
Code:
2014-01-11 14:41:03, Error CSI 0000028b (F) Manifest unparsable. Component: [ml:280{140},l:160{80}]"x86_msmouse.inf.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.0.6000.16609_it-it_5c3d42016313f70b"[gle=0x80004005]

I do not like creating a repair off this information alone, so I would like to get another set of logs from you.

Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

  1. Download the System Update Readiness Tool from Microsoft --> here <-- Please save the tool to a convenient location as it may be necessary to run it again.
  2. After the download has completed, double-click the file and wait while it initializes.
  3. Click Yes to begin installation. Please note it may take some time to complete and may appear to stall whilst installing. Don't worry, this is perfectly normal behaviour. Also note, whilst I say "installing", it's actually running the tool and can therefore be "installed" (run) repeatedly.

Export CBS folder

  1. Click the Start button :startorb: then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this new file to your next post.
