Hello, hope you can help.

I receive error code 80070490 when trying to run windows update. I've already tried the the Windows System File Checker withouth success. i have also run the Windows tool that checks the CBS file registration and this has detected 2 errors but wont fix them. I have just run your SFCFix and this hasn't worked either. I've attached the SFCFix.txt and the CBS folder zip. Please can you help?

Kind regards, Harry.

Hi Harry and welcome to Sysnative :)

Sorry for the delay in responding to your query.

Lets get started, firstly can you please run SURT again just to make sure there are no other errors:

Download and run System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

  • Please go Here and download the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT). Save this file to your desktop
  • Go to your desktop and run KB947821
  • When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Hello again. I thought it had crashed but 1 hour later it announced it had finished. I've copied the files in to this message.

Did you get the detail from my reminder? I've copied it below. But also I now recall having an issue with an email hack at the same time. Could all this be related and the reason for my troubles? Yes, as you've guessed, I've had a lot of trouble in a very short amount of time.

Just to put a bit more meat on the bones as something else has sprung to mind since I sent the post. I've also tried to repair windows using the installation CD. However, to run the repair I have to uninstall SP2. Trouble is SP2 doesnt appear on my programs list. It seems as though my computer has lost its windows update history as well as not updating. I did have trouble with the google redirect virus when the error code issues started.

Hi Harry,

I got the files fine, thank you :)

There are two registry corruptions appearing

Code:
Checking Packages
(f)	CBS Registry Error	0x80070002	Package_for_KB2957503~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.2 failed to get CurrentState
(f)	CBS Registry Error	0x80070002	Package_for_KB2957503~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~~6.0.1.2 failed to get Visibility

I should have a fix ready for you in about a day :)

Thanks

Hi Harry,

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Once this is done please run SURT again :)
