Hi, Not a serious problem, but new updates were available yesterday and after installing them (on my Vista x64 computer), I still have the 'Windows Update' notification telling me to install some of the same updates that have already been installed.

I checked my update history, and it shows that 'Security Updates for Microsoft Office 2007 suites' has been installed two or three times already yesterday. But, the available updates are showing that I haven't installed these. Should I just uninstall duplicate copies? And what should I do about the notification wrongly telling me to install them again?

A hint might be that WinPatrol (for the first time ever since doing Windows Updates) kept popping up telling me that the updates for the Office 2007 were installing (or something like that). I hate to say I didn't pay much attention and just clicked OK - ha. Not a great idea? I'm just wondering if that had something to do with it. Thanks for any help. : )

I see someone else is having this problem, so I'll follow that thread and see what the solution is.

Hi Dee, welcome back!

This is a problem with the updates and not with your computer, so I'm afraid there's nothing we can do about it. On all of the update's KB pages, it lists this condition as a known problem:

MS13-073: Description of the security update for Microsoft Office Excel 2007: September 10, 2013
MS13-073: Description of the security update for Microsoft Excel 2007 (xlconv-x-none.msp): September 10, 2013
MS13-072: Description of the security update for 2007 Office system (MSO): September 10, 2013

Known issues with this security update

  • You may be repeatedly offered this update even though it is already installed. Microsoft is researching this problem and will post more information in this article when the information becomes available.

Just hang on until Microsoft issues a fix for this!

Hi Tom, OK, I will just wait until Microsoft fixes it. Thanks very much for your help.

Hi Tom, Thanks for asking. : ) The updates did install originally; in fact, numerous times. ha So I have two or three copies of each update installed now. I'm no longer getting the update notification that these updates are ready to install, though, so this is good. I guess I should just uninstall any of the updates that installed more than one time, then?

Hi Dee,

I don't think it will cause you any problems as these updates will only have really installed once, but if you want to tidy up that list then uninstall the updates one by one, rebooting in between, then install them again afterwards :)
