View attachment SFCFix.txtNot sure when all of this started, but it seems to have originated when Automatic Maintenance would not run. When I clicked run maintenance I got a box every time that said "Windows is unable to run automatic maintenance. The maintenance scheduler is unavailable." So I searched out help from windows support and did everything it suggested, not only did it NOT fix my problem, now I have problems with my updates as well. I have turned off auto install as I have tried out windows 10 and HATE it and do not want it. My computer kept trying to install it on its own so I now select what I want. When I tell it to scan for new updates, it goes on FOR EVER!!!. the processing light on the top of my computer that normally shows the computer is "thinking" and processing does not even light up or blink indicating (I think) that it is not actually scanning. The other day, I noticed my game lagging when I normally have no problems at all, (The Sims4 with all expansions and updates) so I opened task manager and noticed that the CPU% was very high. I researched some things I could uninstall and when I did, updates started coming through again, and where, for the past several months, the dates by last checked for updates and last run updates have said "never", I noticed that there was a date beside checked for updates. I don't know if what I uninstalled had anything to do with that or not, the program had been on my PC since I got it from a family member in almost new condition, I was just glad to be getting updates again. However, I do not want to go through windows again if I can help it. I noticed this website mentioned in a public thread somewhere as running the scan SFC FIX, I thought it was worth a try, sadly, it did not find any problems. I still have one update that will not install that windows says is important. I have run the trouble shooter which says it found problem: windows update components must be repaired. It shows that it was fixed and even has a green check mark. But still will not install update.

**CBC files are large and will follow soon***

I don't know if anyone can help, I have tried every thing I can think of. It may come down to taking it in to someone who can fix it, but that my take at least a year as I have kids who homeschool and their computers need fixing first. So, I am on my own, with as much help as I can get from anyone who is willing!!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. If you are still in need of assistance please do the following.

SFC Scan
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Right-click on this file and choose Send To...Compressed (zipped folder). Please upload this zipped file CBS.zip to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hi, thanks for responding. I have run the sfc/scannow twice, and both times I have gotten the response, Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service. Not sure what to do at this point. I don't think I can continue on with your other instructions. Is there something else I can try?

Thanks. Please do the following.

Step#1 - ChkDsk Scan
1. Right-click your Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin). Answer Yes to allow if the User Account Control dialog comes up.
2. You should now have a black window open that you can type in to.
3. Please type chkdsk and then press enter.
4. Chkdsk will start to run. Please allow it to finish. You will know it is running when you see text as follows.
Chkdsk.JPG

5. Download ListChkdskResult.exe by SleepyDude and save it on your desktop. If it's already downloaded to your desktop, just skip this step.
6. Right-click this file and select Run as administrator (Allow if prompted)and a text file will open (and also be saved on the desktop as ListChkdskResult.txt).
Please copy the contents of this file and paste into your next post.

There are issues on your disk I would like to correct. Please do the following. It looks similar to previous step but we will be doing chkdsk /R.

3. Please type chkdsk /R and then press enter. <<That's chkdsk followed by a space then a forward slash and R
4. Chkdsk will start to run. Please allow it to finish. You will know it is running when you see text as follows.

mine said something a little different than your example: chkdsk /R
the type of the file system is NTFS.
cannot lock current drive.

chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

ok, I told it yes and had to restart my system before it did anything. It was stuck on 10% for several hours. I went to bed as it got too late to wait on. When I got up this morning, my computer had me sign in to get into it. So I can only assume it completed:

Good. Looks like issues were corrected. Before we continue let's verify if you still have the same issue/symptom. Please let me know.

That seems to have solved it!!! It downloaded and installed 26 important updates without incident. Is there anyway to keep windows 10 from constantly trying to install itself on my computer. My PC is not equipped for windows 10 and did not run any of my music, videos, or photos, so I have no interest in 10. After each update, I get a notice saying that windows 10 is ready to install, I just need to restart my computer. As some updates need me to restart my computer, I do not want to install 10 again by accident. I would like to totally remove the download from my computer, but nothing I have looked up so far has been successful in helping me to remove it.

Maintenance still will not run however, I do not know how important that is.

Please do the following and I'll help you disable the Windows 10 update.

Step#1 - Export WU Info

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate\
  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file WU (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  7. Please zip and attach this file.

No problem at all. Please start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.
