The most recent KB's from Tuesday's updates refuse to install, but the optional driver updates installed just fine. I have followed all steps in the guide. Ran chkdsk, sfc /scannow, and sfcfix(log is unremarkable). CBS logs indicate the some files are not found. Never had a problem like this before. Please see the attached CBS logs.

As always, many thanks!

Are you getting a "failed" message when viewing installed updates or is something else happening? IMO, just because Microsoft offers optional driver updates, doesn't mean you should necessarily install them. Not to lead you on a difficult path, don't uninstall the updated drivers until there's more input here.

The two updates that will not install are: 2020-10 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64 (KB4578968), and 2020-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4579311). When inside Windows, the two updates appear to install just fine. When I reboot the machine, it attempts to install the updates, reboots a few more times, and then finally there's a message that they could not be installed. I've tried installing them separately, and I've tried to use the standalone installers from Microsoft. I'm no expert, but from looking at the CBS logs, it appears that when Windows tries to install the updates, there's a file missing. Hopefully this explanation helps - my apologies for not including more detail yesterday.

No need to apologize such things happen. I had a similar problem a month ago mine just said "failed please re try later".
Where in the past I had used System Restore to fix this so that is an option for you and it didn't work this time with these two I wound up restoring a Macrium image file as the only way I could fix it. After that I was able to go forward and future updates worked and like you Windows Security was updating and so were drivers before so I kept thinking in time it would fix itself.

Even though so many are reluctant to do something like that it so often is a "time saver". Unfortunately that way we don't know what went wrong or what fixed it
but WU issues can be "{life shortening" trying to resolve!
