Greatly appreciate it if any help can be provided with the following issue which seems to have started in May 2015 after downloading Windows updates. Operating System is Windows 7, SP 1, x64.

Windows Update errors and System File Checker (SFC) corruption seem to be the main issues. As such, am unable to download any Windows updates or complete sfc/scannow.

Error code is typically 80070570. In addition, sfc/scannow does not complete indicating the following: ‘Windows Resource Protection could not perform the following operation’. It always stops at 19% complete.

Tried removing the Windows Update KB 3022345, aka… ‘Update for customer experience and diagnostic telemetry’ which I believe started the issues but, Windows will not allow me to remove the update. Related to KB 3022345 was the fix MSFT said to download ‘KB 3068708’ which seems to show in the error code w/in the CBS folder even though it does not actually show up in the installed updates within the O/S and I am unable to successfully install it since 90% of Windows updates will not install now since the problem arose.

Ran SFCFix, but shows no errors. However the CBS text file (attached here) appears to show 2 sets of errors, one set after where POQ 27 ends and the other after where POQ 55 ends.

Am uploading the CBS folder now. Any help w/ a fix would be greatly appreciated!

IS there another way to upload the CBS folder, other than thru the site as size is too large. Tried the instructions below but coming back as 'Unable to complete the operation: access denied.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe using the following link and save the tool to your Desktop: Download SFCFix
  2. Download SFCFixScript.txt and save this to your Desktop as well: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...cript.txt?dl=1
  3. On your Desktop, you should now see two files: SFCFixScript.txt and SFCFix.exe.
  4. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  5. SFCFix will now begin to upload your CBS logfiles to our server.

thanks

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named LiquidTension. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Hello joe4356,

Apologies for the delay.

Before carrying out the instructions below, please backup important files to a USB drive or similar.

CHKDSK

  • Click the Windows Start

button. Type CMD in the search bar, right-click CMD and click
    AVOiBNU.jpg
    Run as administrator.
  • In the command window type the following command and press Enter on your keyboard.

    chkdsk

  • If you are prompted to schedule CHKDSK to run the next time the computer restarts, type y and press Enter on your keyboard.
  • Type Exit and press Enter on your keyboard.
  • Restart your computer. CHKDSK will automatically run.
  • Note: This process can take up to an hour.
  • Upon completion, download ListChkdskResult and save the file to your Desktop.
  • Right-click ListChkdskResult.exe and click
    AVOiBNU.jpg
    Run as administrator.
  • A text file will open. Copy the contents of the file and paste in your next reply.

Thanks for the reply. Attached please find the results you requested. I had tried in the past to run CHKDSK but never could get it to complete the process. Seems like the same thing happened this time as well but perhaps the results will provide some insight. Thanks again.

Hello,

Please repeat the instructions in my previous post - only this time using the following command: chkdsk c: /r

Upon completion, rerun ListChkdskResult.exe and provide the log in your next reply.

Attached is the file. as an FYI, I had run this is the past week, in addition to the chkdsk c: /f command, both to no avail as I believe there are some corrupt system files resulting from Windows updates downloaded in May of this year causing the problem. Not sure of the command used about a week ago but I was able to get an indication that read the following.... "c:\Windows\winSxS\Temp is corrupt and unreadable". Also, as another FYI, before I realized that the issue had been created by Windows updates, I did try a new hard drive just to make sure that it was not a hard drive issue and it is not, as the new hard drive still resulted in the the same two issues. Thanks alot.

Hello,

It doesn't appear CHKDSK with the /r switch ran correctly. Let's try using the GUI.

1. Open up My Computer. You can double-click the icon on your desktop (if you have one) or Click the Start button in the lower left and click on Computer as shown below.

2. Right-click on the Disk that we are doing a chkdsk on and select Properties.

3. Click the Tools tab and click the Check now... button.

4. Ensure both options are checked and click the Start button.

5. A message box will likely come up explaining that it can't be done while it's in use. Click the Schedule disk check button.

6. Click OK to exit the properties window.
7. Reboot your machine.

Already tried that quite a few times. What would be next step given that fact. Thanks much

Hello,

We suspect CHKDSK with the /r switch is not running correctly. It's important we address the errors reported by CHKDSK - as such, we need to execute CHKDSK in a different environment.

  • Follow the instructions here (Windows 7) on how to boot into the Recovery Environment.
  • Once at the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter on your keyboard.

    notepad

  • Click File, followed by Open. On the left, click Computer. Look for the drive letter associated with Local Disk. Once you've identified the drive letter, close the window followed by Notepad.
  • At the Command Prompt, type the following command and press Enter on your keyboard.
  • Note: Replace c (in red below) with the drive letter you identified earlier.

    chkdsk c: /r

chkdsk was able to run all the way through. Took about an hour and a half. Don't believe, I was able to achieve that before outside of the Recovery Environment as done here. However at the very end, it did indicate that it was unable to transfer results to Windows log file.

Just want to confirm that I selected the correct drive. There were 3 listed:

T106139WE (C:) 519GB free of 580GB
system (D:) 1.27 GB free of 1.46GB
Boot (X:) 28.9 MB free of 31.3MB

Since none of them was labeled Local Disk, as per the directions posted, I selected the (C:) drive to run chkdsk on. Attached is the ListChkdskResultFile. Thanks alot.

Good, we're making progress. :dsmile:

Please rerun chkdsk c: /r in Normal Mode, followed by ListChkdskResult. Provide the log in your next reply.

Attached is the ListChkdskResult after being run in normal mode.

Also as an FYI, Post running chkdsk in the Recovery Environment yesterday, Windows updates began to download and appear to have installed successfully so that is good. As such, thought I'd check to see if the sfc /scannow would complete. In the past it was stopping at 19%, now it is running all the way through to 100% and then indicating that 'Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them'. Thanks alot.
