All. I'm going through some troubling times..
I have tons of music software that I'm intending to install, but have been advised is heavily reliant on updated components.
I've received this computer as a gift. Its a great machine, that I just need some assistance repairing.

I do not possess the restore discs for it, I've already ran Microsoft Fixit and no errors detected.
I'd also like to keep the professional software it has from windows... System is not allowing me to update due to these repairs and the new software is causing the computer to blue screen and shutdown on me on occasion.

Any help would be appreciated!!!
I'm Running:
Dell XPS 8700 Intel Core i5 - 4430 CPU@3.00 GHZ
8.00GB of installed memory
system type is : 64 bit operating system

I installed it and it states " no such interface supported"

Looks like registry corruption. This is usually an indicator of bad RAM or other hardware problems.

Please follow the instructions on this page to run the memory test: Diagnosing memory problems on your computer

This test will take quite some time, I usually recommend to run it overnight when you do not need the computer.

If the results of the test are not displayed when the computer restarts, open Event Viewer then expand ‘Windows Log’ and right-click on ‘System’ and click on ‘Find’. Type in ‘MemoryDiagnostics-Results’ and click on ‘Find Next’.
The event should indicate if the test detected errors or did not detect errors.

thank you, I cant tell you how much I appreciate all of you help. I'll be sure to run the memory test :D Im off friday so I'll leave it running while i head off to work

"Searching from the selected event to the end of the list, there is no event that contains the specific string. To search all events, select the first event in the list and run the search again."

Will the test run while the system is logged in? Because it went to the blue screen that showed me it was in progress, but now that I've logged in after it prompted me to, shows no indication it's still ongoing? Lol I'm sorry for my confusion

That's ok. Do you have a spare flash drive or CD-R?

Let's take a look at the COMPONENTS hive.
Run the script below to collect and upload the file.

Once you get the components hive uploaded follow the instructions here: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutorials/3909-test-ram-memtest86.html
It is another memory test tool (memtest86). This one will report errors in red and will continue to run until it is stopped.

If memtest reports any errors, please stop the test and report back.
