Windows Update was not allowing me to download or install Updates

I have a similar senerio ....Getting similar message as BeeDamned

"Restart your computer to install important updates.
Windows can't update important files and services while the system is using them. Save any open files and restart the computer and then try to check for new updates."

I received your e-mail today and I need this computer that I am working on reviewed for issues. It appears to be accepting Updates and installing them but I am not sure whether there might be some underlying issue that have not been resolved. I'm helping a gamer friend fix this matter.

There is no longer a pending.xml file found in the winsxs file ??????????

Dear Niemiro:

The subsequent *.zip files are the most current files on this computer. It seems very strange that the pending.xml file vanished and Windows Update became functioning again. It is almost as if the computer has a poltergeist! If you please eval the info sent and let me know if this thing should be released back into the wild (back to my gamer friend ...LOL) it would greatly be appreciated. If not, what are the next steps? Thank you so much in advance for all your help.
