Hi, I am currently running Windows 10 Home Edition (64-bit) and Windows Update is trying to update to Windows 10, version 2004.

The update status is "Pending restart". When I manually click on the "Restart now" button it says:
We're having trouble restarting to finish the install. Try again in a little while. If you keep seeing this, try searching the web or contacting support for help. This error code might help: (0x80070005)

Even when I try to manually restart windows with "Update and restart", it just restarts windows but doesn't apply the update.

I ran sfc and it completed successfully and returned:
Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

Then I ran dism which also ran successfully and returned:
The restore operation completed successfully. The operation completed successfully.

Finally I ran sfcfix and it returned:
SFCFix version 3.0.2.1 by niemiro.

I have attached my CBS folder as a zip file attachment.

I hope someone can help me fix this problem.

Thank you in advance!

Hello and welcome!

Step#1 - FRST Scan

1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right-click FRST64.exe and click Run as Administrator to run it as administrator. When the tool opens, click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Please ensure you place a check mark in the Addition.txt check box at the bottom of the form before running (if not already checked).
4. Press Scan button.
5. It will produce a log called FRST.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should now be the desktop)
6. Please attach the log back here.
7. Another log (Addition.txt - also located in the same directory as FRST64.exe) will be generated Please also attach that along with the FRST.txt in your reply.

Also, please search your system for setupact.log and setuperr.log and attach the results zipped. Omit the 0 byte files.

Let's clean up properly:

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Try using MCT:

  1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
  2. Accept the License Agreement
  3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
  4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We want to get the ISO so that you don't have to keep downloading which can take hours.

Sorry for that late reply. I have tried upgrading with the ISO file but it says that my C:\ drive doesn't have enough space to perform the upgrade.

This might be the reason why upgrade could not be applied through Windows Update.

I have decided to buy a larger hard disk and reinstall Windows.

Thanks for your help!
