Hello there,
I am new to this forum, I am running Windows 10 and have been encountering an error when trying to use Windows Update and when turning on .NET Framework 3.5 to install certain applications.
When I try to update Windows 10 to version 20H2, the following message occurs: There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80070246)
I have read up on solutions online and have followed multiple steps to try and fix the error code: (0x80070246) which have led me to the step of running a SFCscan through Command Prompt.
When I try to run a SFCscan (sfc /scannow) the following message occurs: Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.
Thankfully I have found this forum and after using the SFCFix tool, this following error message appears that is also appearing when trying to turn on .NET Framework 3.5:
Error: 582
An illegal character was encountered. For a multi-byte character set this includes a lead byte without a succeeding trail byte. For the Unicode character set this includes the characters 0xFFFF and 0xFFFE.
This error appears specifically when SFCFix begins running DISM or if DISM is entered manually into command prompt: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Thank you for your time and let me know if any further detail or attachments are required.
