I have run SFC and DISM to confirm the results of running them. I have attached the pieces of the CBS.log and DISM.log files together with the console output.

I would be grateful if someone can suggest some action to recover the situation.

I gave up waiting. After 3 weeks with no replies, I restored my system from a backup. That was a bit fiddly having to swap the BIOS settings to allow the restore, but achieved OK. There followed a marathon session of reapplying the updates, but patience was rewarded. Everything works fine.
