[SOLVED] Windows Update Restart Loop

For about half a year now, I've been having problems with Windows Update. It began about the same time as the Windows 10 upgrades (I did not upgrade, and I still use Windows 7). Windows Update would automatically restart every day until I disabled automatic restarts - now it no longer forces restarts, but even after restarting it still gives me notifications to restart so I can finish installing updates. These updates always fail, and it seemed to be stuck on Microsoft Security Essentials definitions updates.

Among the many things I've tried have been the Windows Update troubleshooter in Safe Mode, reinstalling MSE, manually installing updates, running Microsoft Fixit 50123, using the Windows Repair All-In-One tool to repair Windows Update, and I'm sure there were other things as well. Nothing has worked, and I still get bugged every day about restarting for Windows Update - which is also preventing me from actually installing new updates.

1. Click your start button and type cmd in the search box.
2. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes to the UAC prompt if it appears.
3. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window and hit enter.
reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate /s >1.txt && notepad 1.txt

4. Notepad will open showing the WU info. Can you copy and paste this into your next reply?

Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
6. SFCFix will now process the script.
7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

It looks like that did the trick. Windows Update stopped telling me to restart, I was able to install new updates, and when I restarted my computer I didn't get the usual blackscreen. Thank you so much!!!
