Hi, there,
I have a problem with these two updates to Windows 7 Pro: KB3061518 & KB3022345. 11 other Windows updates installed fine this Tuesday, 5/12. These two 'Fail' & produce an 'unknown error 80070490' in Windows Update. I tried WU several times with the same result.
I tried downloading the updates but I cannot find a Win7 version of KB3022345 & the downloaded install file for KB3061518 still fails.
This is on an HP Compaq 6005 Pro with an AMD 765 chipset & B59 CPU.
I bought this as a refurb at the beginning of April & upgraded the RAM to 12GB from 4GB, the CPU to an AMD B59 from a B24, storage to a Samsung 250GB SSD (boot) & a Seagate 1000GB SSHD (data) from an older Seagate 750GB HD.
In the middle of April, I added Acronis TrueImage 2015, made an emergency Acronis Boot DVD & while testing the DVD to see if it would boot the PC I got a message that there was no operating system installed. The PC would not boot after that. I still don't know what caused this problem.
After I put the original hardware, RAM, CPU & HD, back in the machine & it booted fine, so I tested one new piece at a time & concluded that I had a software, operating system or virus problem & it was not hardware related. But, I had to take it to a computer repair shop to fix the boot problem, not having any expertise with Windows boot repair myself.
Since then I scanned with MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Hitman Pro, adwcleaner, & Avast. The PC's clean but I still have several problems that I am trying to work through:
I can use the button in System Protection to make manual Restore Points and Windows & utility software can make restore points but System Restore itself will not run in Windows or Windows Safe Mode. I can boot to a Windows Repair CD or a Windows 7 install DVD to run System Restore from there & it's the only way to even see saved Restore Points but I have used System Restore with this method & it works.
Action Center won't open even though it was sending me messages about not having anti-virus software even though my Avast Pro was running fine. I was able to get Action Center to stop the messages but still can't open Action Center itself.
The Winbrand.dll file got corrupted & I was able to fix that after much knashing of teeth. A Windows PC is pretty helpless when Winbrand won't load.
I got Task Scheduler back running. It was switched off & I didn't have permission to turn it on.
I use the Windows Event Viewer & I still have 2 boot errors but I used to have 41 of them.
WMI still has errors with certain objects according to WMIDiag.
But, here I am with this Windows Update problem:
I ran the Windows Fixit from the 'How do I reset Windows Update Components' page.
I ran the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows 7 from MicroSoft.
I deleted the WU cache files in the %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution\Download\ folder
I ran SFC /SCANNOW from an elevated prompt & got 'no intergrity violation'.
I found your SFCFix & ran it.
I am unable to upload a copy of my CBS folder since even zipped it is 55MB & I am on a DSL 2mb up line.
