Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Antivirus: now Microsoft Security Essential, previously Avast

My problem is similar to this:
htps://www.sysnative.com/forums/threads/win7sp1-how-do-i-fix-all-these-csi-c-mark-deployment-missing-errors.22273/
The problem with the Windows Update began on March 17: some of the updates failed (error 80070490).
Used tools: installing updates from file in safe mode, Fix It 50202 Aggressive mode, Fix WU Utility, WindowsUpdate.diagcab, sfc /scannow, sfcFix, Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth, System Update Readiness tool (KB947821), Windows Memory Test.
CheckSUR.log showed: Found 116 errors, Fixed 98 errors. In many log’s lines was "avast", e.g.
((f) CSI Missing Winning Component Key 0x00000000 x86_avast.vc140.crt_fcc99ee6193ebbca_14.0.27012.0_none_a45421ee27ef60f7
(f) CSI Unexpected Failure 0x00000005 14.0.27012.0 x86_avast.vc140.crt_fcc99ee6193ebbca_14.0.27012.0_none_a45421ee27ef60f7 Error deleting winners map value.)
I decided to uninstall AVAST (using avastclear.exe) and restart KB947821 tool. This time it fixed 16 errors, 2 remaining, with "avast" in the log as well. I also uninstalled Avast Secure Browser and I restarted KB947821 tool once again. There are still 2 errors:
(f) CSI C Mark Deployment Missing 0x00000000 c!avast.vc110.crt_2036b14a11e83e4a_11.0.60610.1_0b20a8ff883c3a4a x86_avast.vc110.crt_2036b14a11e83e4a_11.0.60610.1_none_1d37a43bbfe1dc9c

I reinstalled and uninstalled Avast twice (with avastclear and RevoUninstaller), but this did not resolve Windows Update problem and did not remove avast leftovers.
Thank you for help.

Hello and welcome,

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again. Note: If you find that you need to reboot and are unable to because this is a server then try Option#2 below.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Option#2 (only if you are unable to follow the previous instructions)

  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, one of which is named COMPONENTS.
  • Copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.
  • Now right-click on the COMPONENTS file that is on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file (COMPONENTS.zip) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Filedropper or One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBak program now.

Thank you for your interest in my subject. I was able to copy the COMPONENTS file but only in Safe Mode. I have not tried the second option.
Below is a link to the COMPONENTS.ZIP file.

  4. Press the Fix button.
  5. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  6. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  7. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  8. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Done. Operation completed successfully. For all items, the comment is: successfully deleted. Can I try Windows Update immediately?

Can I try Windows Update immediately?
No, not yet.

Please rename the file FRST64.exe into English.exe.
  • Right-click the file English.exe to run the tool as administrator.
  • Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  • Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachments in your next reply.

In your first post you said
I also uninstalled Avast Secure Browser
It is still installed and is your default internet browser. Please explain.

I've uninstalled Avast Secure Browser at the beginning of the Windows Update problem, right after uninstalling Avast Antivirus.
I thought that the leftovers of uninstalling Avast Antivirus could be related to Avast Secure Browser, so I also uninstalled it.
Nothing helped, the leftovers of Avast Antivirus were the same, so it was not a problem with Avast Secure Browser.
I installed it again (probably over a month ago) and use it on a daily basis. Should I uninstall it?

I thought that the leftovers of uninstalling Avast Antivirus could be related to Avast Secure Browser, so I also uninstalled it.
These leftovers are part of a previous Avast antivirus version.

Should I uninstall it?
Yes. After that we remove the remaining remnants of all Avast products.
When we are finished with this thread you may reinstall Avast Secure Browser if you like.

I uninstalled Avast Secure Browser.
Should I now repeat all the steps mentioned in „Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions“?

Step 2:
Start the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
On completion, attach the logfile C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log in your next reply.

I started Windows Update yesterday around 8:30pm. Two important updates were available:
KB4499164 Monthly Rollup Windows7x64
KB2310138 definition update for SecurityEssential
Result as usual (as from March 17). Windows downloaded and installed updates with info: the installation was completed successfully, reboot the computer.
During closing Windows installs updates, progress reaches 11% (always!) and the system closes.
During restarting Windows installs updates, progress reaches 11% (always!) and says: "Failure to Configure Windows Update, Reverting Changes".
I checked the history of Windows Update:
KB4499164 failure error code: 80070490
KB2310138 success
I also checked Installed Updates in Control Panel. The list, from mid-March to today, is as follows:
KB4489878 2019-05-30 2019-03 Monthly Rollup Windows7x64
KB4486565 2019-05-30 2019-02 Preview of Monthly Rollup
KB4505050 2019-05-25 2019-05 Update Windows7x64
KB4495606 2019-05-15 2019-05 Security and Quality Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5.1 for Windows7
KB3172605 2019-04-09 Update Windows7x64 (dated 12.09.2016)
KB4493132 2019-04-04 concerns the end of support for Windows 7 SP1 on January 14, 2020
KB4474419 2019-03-21 2019-03 Security Update Windows7x64
KB4490628 2019-03-19 2019-03 Servicing Stack Update Windows7x64
This means that yesterday evening, system installed updates dated 2019-03 and 2019-02. This is the first time since mid-March when the system successfully installed Monthly Rollup and Preview of Monthly Rollup.
What should I do next? I can try to install KB4499164 once again, via Windows Update and manually with the .msu file in safe mode.
I attach the link to cbs.log file.
CBS (2).zip

Attach the file C:\Windows\Inf\setupapi.dev.log to your next reply.
