Hi Experts,
I support a Windows 2008 R2 server in a school with Active Directory, KMS, DFS, ....
It's a german server, so I try to translate the error messages in english

my problem: Since February 2015 I get 80070490 Update errors for some new Security patches
would be great if u can help me here.
What I did already:

0. run SFCFix
=> no errors

1. sfc /scannow
=> no errors found

2. WindowsUpdateDiagnostik.diagcab
=>
windows-update-error 0x80070057 not solved
last update problems not solved
Service registration is missing or corrupt solved

3. KB947821.msu installed
=> checksur.log no errors

4. backup/restore
restore the server from an older backup (before February)
using then the Backup Restore option "systemState" from the newest backup (to have the Active directory, sysvol.. up to date). But "systemstate" includes Windows update, so the same error

5. Repair server (setup.exe running from Windows 2008 R2)
Using the Windows "Repair the server" ends with a lot of errors, the server didn't work anymore

Check for Windows Updates again, then pick one to install.
Note the KB# for later.

If the install fails, reply with the KB# and error code and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS.log and C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

dear zcomputerwiz, great deal, all unsucessful updates are applied now!!! Thanks!

But I'm a little bit frustated! Why Microsoft did not add this solution to the fixit or other utilities? I spent days with this problem.

I have tested the solution with a restored backup system, and I hope it will work the production environment too.

Thanks again and mark it as solved!

Glad to hear it worked for you :thumbsup2:

I'm just glad Microsoft does a fairly good job of logging what problems the installers encounter and have some documentation for most of the error codes :P
