Hi

I volunteer at a Computer Lab in a neighborhood community center. The lab has 20 PCs for public use and an HP domain server running Windows Server 2012 Version 6.3 (Build 9600). It appears Windows Update on the Server has been failing for the last several weeks with Error 8024402F. As a volunteer Iā€™m only in a couple days a week so there may be a few days delay till I can reply. Thanks in advance for any help! :-)
  1. Sfc /scannow completes with an error found for corrupt file unable to fix
  2. SFCfix.txt pasted below. Tried Windows Update. It still failed
  3. Uploaded the CBS zipped log file
  4. Before this forum I tried
    • Windows Update Trouble Shooter
    • Ran script Reset-WindowsUpdate.ps1 I found on Technet. Author stated it was tested on Server 2012

Thank you.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and type in the following:

wuauclt /detectnow
wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow
wuauclt /reportnow

Press Enter after each of the commands.

Let me know if WU works afterwards.

Are you connected wired or wirelessly?

Is the latest version of IE installed and is it set as a default browser?

Can you tell me if this downloads for you: download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/common/2012/04/4969820_309b12a082084485c7715c9e3337faaead34d1bb.cab

Also, let's clear cache and import the proxy settings from IE (if applicable). Note that the fixlist will reboot the Server.

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

  3. Yes I can download the cab file
  4. Ran FRST Fix. Output below
  5. Sever rebooted but Windows Update still fails
  6. I set IE to be the default browser
  7. Re-ran Win Update but still fails
