Hi,
I've been having an issue running Windows Update on my machine (Intel I7-3770K | 16GB of RAM | Win7 Ultimate x64 SP1) for sometime now :banghead::

I found this forum and followed the guide posted here: Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions :thumbsup2:
The SFC scan resulted in the following:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow
Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.
C:\Windows\system32>

The SFCFix resulted in the following:

SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.

Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - amd64
Not using a script file.

I really appreciate any assistance with getting this issue resolved.
Thank you in advance! :thumbsup2:

Hello and welcome!

Has the RAM been tested? If not, please test it, because there is a possibility that these corruptions were caused by bad RAM stick.

Thank you for quick reply.
So the backstory is that I've had this machine for sometime and about a year ago or so started having horrific freezing/crashing issues.
I've tried a million different things, replaced my SSD, did completely clean install of Win7... all to no avail. :banghead:
In the end it did end up being a bad memory stick. I had it replaced by CRUCIAL with brand new ones (both sticks actually) which fixed the issue.

However, since Windows was reinstalled when I still had the bad stick in, based on what you're saying, could the corruption have occurred while I still had the bad memory stick in?
If so, how do I fix it?

Thank you!

Thank you. That explains the errors I'm seeing! And yes, the bad stick is the most likely cause of this mess.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service and just provide the link here.

Makes sense.
Here's the link to zipped up COMPONENTS file: COMPONENTS.zip - Google Drive

Please start with the following:

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.
6. Run SURT again and attach CheckSUR.log.
