I have a Windows 10 system running as a VMWare Desktop machine. I have used this image for many years, upgrading and updating as appropriate.

However, now i'm getting the error trying to apply the latest updates.

SFC /scannow gives an error, "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation." at 51%
DISM gives an error 605 at 56.3% saying "The specified buffer contains ill-formed data."

Attached is my CBS.ZIP and ComponentScanner.txt.

Please help!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Step 1. Download

  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Thank you very much. DISM got to 56.4% this time. So it looks like one step further than before.

I've included the DISM log in the file as well as the SFCFix.txt output (i noticed one error, maybe that's the problem?)
