Full error message: 2018-12 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4483234) - Error 0x80070002

I've tried to correct the problem using everything I know of including:

- Windows update troubleshooter

- Resetting Windows update components

- Restoring missing file(s) from the installation source (install.wim)

- DISM commands:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Depending on the installation source as applicable, the commands:
DISM /export-image /SourceImageFile:install.esd /SourceIndex:6 /DestinationImageFile:install.wim /Compress:max /CheckIntegrity
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:H:\Sources\Install.WIM:6 /LimitAccess

I ran SFCFix.exe but had to terminate it via <CTRL-C> after allowing it to run for about 1.5 hours. I captured the screen and it's attached in the file "SCFfix initial explanation screen.jpg". I used SysInternal's "procmon64.exe" to see what it was doing prior to terminating it. A screen shot of where it was stuck is attached in file "SCFFix_hang.jpg".

The files recommended in the forum's instructions are attached. I also ran "SysnativeFileCollectionApp" for completeness and if useful or necessary can be downloaded here:

SysnativeFileCollectionApp.zip - Google Drive

I have not tried doing a repair install or in-place upgrade because of the nature of the error messages. I don't believe they will resolve my problems or might make the problem worse.

I suspect that unless I resolve this issue that I will no longer be able to install other future updates. Any help you can provide in resolving my issue is sincerely appreciated!

Hello and welcome!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put tags around the log to break up the text.

I had to interrupt the script with <CTRL-C> because it appeared to hang (I waited about 10 minutes for it to complete). This is the same thing that happened in my post #1. Here's the SCFFix.txt contents:

Attached are screen shots of the interrupted SCFFix output. I've also attached the zipped DISM.log and CBS.log files should you need them.

FYI, I noticed previously, and this time, that the CBS file contained the following:

2018-12-24 23:42:43, Info CBS (p) CBS Catalog Missing (n) Package_for_KB4457146~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.0

2018-12-24 23:42:43, Info CBS Repair failed: Missing replacement mum/cat pair.

Yesterday I expanded the stand-alone installer package downloaded from the Microsoft catalog site:

windows10.0-kb4457146-x64_8aff4c5fd18be7fb63f2700333c1a9c8961c8ade.msu

It contains:
package_1_for_kb4457146~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.0 cat and mum files and
package_2_for_kb4457146~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.0 cat and mum files, among others, but it does not have the package_for_kb4457146~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~10.0.1.0 file that CBS is looking for.

HTH,

Tom

My bad - I made SCFFix.zip a desktop shortcut rather than saving it to the desktop. I had a feeling that I hadn't done something right. Here's the output:

Great! Now run DISM and attach CBS.log. If the message is: The operation completed successfully, go ahead and retry updates.

If they fail, attach CBS.log.

We're almost there (I think). Right now I'm stuck in a install-reboot loop. Update history shows multiple instances of "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1809. Requires a restart to finish installing. I show that I'm currently running Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.472). Update troubleshooter shows Repair Windows Update Database Configuration Corruption. It's now saying "Potential Windows Update Database error detected" as fixed and "Windows Update Components must be repaired" also as fixed. Previous runs of the update troubleshooter were unable to repair the database. The last loop was with the troubleshooter repaired components.

Right now Windows Update say's I'm up to date. I'm pretty sure it I check for updates with my current version still reporting the same as in the paragraph above.

The CBS.log file is attached (compressed).

Windows Update Troubleshooter is unreliable. If your machine is up-to-date, it is your choice to decide whether you want to install the new build (1809) or not.

Do you think it might prevent future updates? I don't see anything in it that affects me all that much - my main concern is future updates. I don't believe (or I don't know how and if I can delay the update indefinitely, just 30 days. I think that since I have automatic updates enabled Windows is still going to try to do the install on its own terms or schedule.

It took me a while to post back here while I tried some fixes on my own. The update download takes a long time and it did the download with each of my attempts, thus the delay.

I now see that I can rename the softwaredistribution directory in \Windows. I wasn't able to do that in a previous loop, even after taking ownership of the directory. I may try to manually reset the Windows Update Components, but I'll wait to hear back from you on my observations.
a how I might correct it? The error message is:

2018-12-25 09:16:44, Error DISM DISM Driver Manager: PID=8412 TID=21964 Error, file not found 'oem60.inf'. - CDriverManager::OpenPackageByFile(hr:0x80070002)

The file is not missing, I see it in the \Windows\INF directory.

Any help you can provide is sinceerly appreciated!

Tom

One thing I saw in the DISM file was an error involving oem60.inf file. Any ide

Nobody but Microsoft can answer this question. For now everything has installed successfully which tells me that everything is okay. There is a specific scenario in which SoftwareDistribution needs to be emptied, this is not one of them.

Does your Device Manager show any exclamation marks?

I don't explicitly use virtualization software, but it may be part of another package. My first thought is that it may be related to my missing oem60.inf error. The oem60.inf file is an AMD display information file, specifically something to do with my XFX (AMD/Radeon) RX-460 graphics card. Probably part of their Radeon Software Adrenalin 2019 package....

I see no evidence of anything Radeon related being missing. As the updates seem to have installed correctly, I'll mark this thread as solved :) In case you encounter an issue down the road. Start a new thread and someone will assist. :)
