Hello:

I have Windows 7 Professional SP1 on a Lenovo W510 Workstation. I am currently booted up in "clean mode" with most non-windows services off and most/all 3rd party software startups disabled in msconfig.

I have a Windows Update failure for KB3071756. It has been attempting to update periodically for months. When it attempts to update, I have to wait for it, only to have it fail and revert. This has happened countless times.

The failure is KB3071756. Error code is 8007054F.

(I'm focusing this post on the above issue, but it may be relevant that I have IE9 and I am also unable to upgrade to IE11. After a long installation process, the IE11 installer again fails and reverts. I don't know if the IE11 install issue is related to the KB3071756 issue. I normally use Chrome, not IE, so it's not a crisis here, but it is mildly annoying.)

Based on other postings on this forum, I ran your sfc scan script and I am attaching the CBS.txt file at the following dropbox location:

Dropbox - CBS.zi

Thank you,

I noticed the SFCFix tool after my post above. I ran this tool (see summary below), but it found no corruptions. However, it is odd that it mentions I have "amd64" when my W510 workstation has an i7 processor inside it.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Let's see if we can resolve the following error within your logs.

Code:
2016-02-06 15:22:22, Error CSI 00000002 (F) Logged @2016/2/6:20:22:22.533 : [ml:200{100},l:198{99}]"EventAITrace:Provider {8939299f-2315-4c5c-9b91-abb86aa0627d} is missing the name in the registry.

Let's start with the following.

Please save this registry file to your desktop. Right-click on this file and select Merge to merge this into the registry. Let me know if it says it was successful.

Your solution worked for me. Not only could I install the KB3071756 update, but I was also able to then update IE to version 11. Thanks!
