I have attached a log file via the sfcfixscript method I have tried to reset the updates by running KB 971058 and then installing the latest agent KB 949104.
I have tried to reach out to microsoft but their solution has me doing dism /online /removepackage: and anything that comes up as failed in the log they want me to remove. I have a few machines with this problem and I can't seem to find out why updates are failing.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. I need to gather some info. Please do the following.

Step#1 - Gather Info
1. Download SFCFix.exe and save this to your Desktop.
2. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
3. Double click on SFCFix.exe to open it.
4. Follow all on screen instructions and upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop named SFCFix.txt.
5. Please post the contents of this log in your next post. Thank you.

I have attached the SSFCFix results , I also added the CBS log file for further analysis.

Allow me to give some more insight into the issue.

We have a few Windows 7 x64 sp1 machines that won't take security updates.

  • I can install all the updates that are available except the " Windows 7 Security Updates" category. If its a " Security Update for windows general , office 2013 , .net or C++ runtime those updates apply just fine. Its only the " Windows 7 Security Updates" that fail.
  • If I use a 3rd party tool like patchlink the updates will install but once the machine reboots the configuration fails and the machine performs a roll back and at time that causes other issues like drivers getting rolled back etc.
  • When I run sfc /scannow - it stops at around 55 % and errors out.
  • I have tried to follow https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2509997 and I stopped at step 7 as everything else I tried was not working properly.
  • I opened a ticket with microsoft but its been 2 weeks and they are not sure what is wrong.

Below is the screenshot from the machine when attempting to install 1 security update via the Windows update component.

Capture.PNG updates.PNG

Even though the sfcfix says it fixed the error with the permissions the very next time I run it the same error pops up when the sfcfix runs.

I ran SFC /SCANNOW again to get the error and I ran indstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt , here are the results of that scan

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Let's see if we can get you fixed up. Please follow the steps and don't try installing updates until I give you the go-ahead. It will be a few steps before we can try. Please start with the following.

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
