Hello!
I am using an HP laptop running Windows 7 x64 SP1. I used to have some issues with Windows Update which have been fixed (will explain more if needed), but now there are 6 updates being offered that always fail with "Code 80070490 Windows update encountered an unknown error." My CheckSUR.log indicates 8 issues that are not fixed, and the same happens when I run SFCFix.exe (I am using Avast Free, is this related?). I have asked in another forum and someone recommended I do a repair install and immediately install KB3138612. Is this the best way to go? I was in the habit of using a registry cleaner (CCleaner) which, after what I've read lately was very dumb. Should I do a clean install and be more careful from now on?
