I've been dealing with this issue off and on for months and not getting anywhere.

I've tried resetting Windows Update - didn't work.

I've run the Microsoft Fix It for the issue - no changes.

I've run the Windows Update resolver program (SURL) - no matter what it states error 0x800F081F and Cryptographic service components are not registered. http://puu.sh/p9Qqw/1136628fed.jpg

I'm at my wits end getting this resolved and with the deadline to update to Win10 for free approaching, this is beginning to be nerve-wracking.

I wasn't able to edit my initial message, so adding the obligatory first post stuff here.

CBS Dir
My CBS directory is 26gigs. It is taking forever to ZIP. I am not sure why there are 2 "persist" files there: one is 17gb and the other is 8.5gb "persist" file in there (one corresponds to tonight, the other a few months ago - probably the last time I tried fixing this at any length).

Per above, the Compressed Zip Windows gave me was 1.5gb. WinRAR compressed it down to 120mb. (can't add a file to my reply - so here's it on Google Drive.

Instead of wasting your time With upgrading Windows online get yourself a USB drive and install it that way

Microsoft Website:
Windows 10

Need to create a USB, DVD or ISO?

If you need to install or reinstall Windows 10 using a USB or DVD, you can use the media creation tool below to create your own installation media with either a USB flash drive or a DVD. The tool provides file formats optimized for download speed and can be used to create ISO files.
If you’re on an Enterprise edition, the media creation tool and the Upgrade now button above won’t work for an upgrade. Please see the Volume Licensing Service Center for more information.

Reading through that, the tool performs a 'clean installation' of Windows 10. I would rather upgrade than 1) have two versions of Windows on my drive or 2) wipe the partition and lose what I currently have.
