I am trying to install KB3101746 in one of my win 2008 R2 server, but its fails with error code 80070490. I have tried running SURT, which doesnt report any error in the checksur.log. I ran sfc scan which in turn reports that it is not able to repair the file ""utc.app.json" of Microsoft-Windows-Unified-Telemetry-Client, Version = 6.1.7601.18869(attached the entire log). After some googling found that the KB KB3068708 and KB3022345 may cause errors in the sfc report, hence i tried to uninstall these KBs but even this fails with the error "Installer encounter an error: 0x80070490 Element Not found"

Can anyone help me on this????

Let's try this:

Remove Update Manually
  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

    wusa /uninstall /KB:3101246

  4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

OK, let's take a look at the COMPONENTS hive.

Run the script below to collect and upload the file.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. [sfcfixdownload]Download SFCFix[/sfcfixdownload] (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Got it.

I'll also need the Component Based Servicing branch of the Software hive.

Export Component Based Servicing

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\
  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  7. Right Click on the ComponentBasedServicing file on your Desktop and choose Send To -> Compressed (Zipped) Folder.

Once done please upload ComponentBasedServicing.zip via DropBox OneDrive or SendSpace
