[SOLVED] Windows update failing - unknown error 8E5E0147

Windows update is not working in windows 7 Home Premium SP1 and I think hasn't been for a while.

Getting error code 8E5E0147 and have so far run fixit a number of times, Run SURT and deleted the software distribution directory all to no avail. I have somewherein the region of 95 updates to install. have managed to get a couple of non-essential updates to run but this is the exception rather than the rule and with no discernable pattern.

I run Kaspersky Pure 3.0 and have tried running with this turned on and turned off.

When Running SURT no errors are detected.

2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

No proxy (not that I am aware of). The laptop is fairly vanilla.

Be sure to select aggressive mode when running the fixit, it will require a reboot.

Let me know the result.

After the reboot, open Windows Update and click Check for Updates.
This will take much longer than usual.

When the check completes, select one update and try to install it. Note the KB#.
If the update fails to install, include the KB# and error code and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log and C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log with your reply.

Running the fixit on aggressive setting seems to have done the trick. I tried about 3 updates individually and they were successful so I went for the big one, the 90 remaining in one shot, and this too completed successfully. So to all intense and purposes this appears fixed.
