Originally started out with Windows Update trying to run, but never finishing. The original message was something like - Windows 10 couldn't be installed. Failed: 1 update. Error(s) found: C1900101-30018 Windows Update encountered an unknown error. This is my sister's machine, and I believe she had cancelled a Windows 10 upgrade at some point, wanting to keep Windows 7. This computer is Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

I have tried using the native Windows Update Repair, Windows Update Diagnostics, new Windows Update Agents, messed around with various options in System Configuration, and tried using the Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64.msu file, among other things. Some tools pointed to a problem with Avast, which I have uninstalled, and attempted to wipe out the remnants of. I found this site, and ran SFCFix, which shows the following -

SFCFix version 3.0.0.0 by niemiro.

Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 - amd64
Not using a script file.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the response. Things have improved since I posted, but I'm still getting error messages. I don't have immediate access to the machine anymore - it's my sister's, and she needed it back. The good news is that I have gotten some Windows Updates since I posted. What seemed to work to get that going was following a suggestion I believe you made to someone else, following the process at Search for Windows Updates takes forever? - A possible solution. After doing that successfully, I have gotten Window Updates. I still get an error message when I go to Windows Update in Control Panel - Windows 10 couldn't be installed, Error(s) found: C1900101-30018. CheckSUR.log still shows errors, as does SFCFix.txt. Below are the contents of SFCFix.txt. I don't know if these problems are just cosmetic, or are actual problems. If they're just cosmetic, I guess we won't worry about them. Avast! was uninstalled.

Good job on finding the solution to your problem. Yes Avast had a bug which caused these remnants. They are a paint to remove and we can if you wish but you are correct that they are really cosmetic and won't cause you any functional issues.

Let's leave things as is then. The main thing is the user wants a working machine, and it does seem to be working now. Thanks for your help. Keep up the good work.
