Thanks in advance for your help with this.

Every time I attempt to install the "2020(01) Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 2008 R2 for x64-based systems (KB4534310)" I get an error code 80073701.

Ive seen another post with the same update and same error code. Any steps/advice would be helpful.

Many thanks

Hello and welcome,

Remove Update Manually
  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt.
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.
    wusa /uninstall /KB:4054518
  4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

A message appears on the screen stating that "Update KB4054518 is not installed on your computer"

No problem. That was expected.

FRST Registry Search
  1. Click the Start button and in the search box, type CMD
  2. When you see cmd.exe on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards.

    Code:
    REG LOAD HKLM\COMPONENTS C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS

Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep the command prompt windows open while you perform the remaining steps. You can minimize it if you wish but keep it open.
  4. Download the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:
64-bit: Downloading Farbar Recovery Scan Tool
Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  5. Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  6. Copy and paste KB4054518 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
  7. When the scan is complete, a message will display that 'SearchReg.txt' is saved in the same folder FRST was started from. Notepad will open this file also. Close Notepad and attach the file 'SearchReg.txt' to your next reply.
  8. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Step 1:
Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.
  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Attach the logfile Fixlog.txt to your next reply.

Step 2:
Restart the machine.
Try to install KB4534310 again and report the result.
If it fails, copy the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log to your desktop.
Zip the copied file and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Thanks a lot. The solution provided worked and I was able to perform the update without any problems. I will make a donation. Thanks for your work.

One last question. Could you tell me the update number that enables the TSL1.2 protocol in Windows 2008 R2?

Yes, Windows Update continues to show important updates but for Office 2010 (always the same ones, although it shows after updating that this process has been completed correctly). When I search again, these updates appear again. Windows does not show any important updates.

Note that Microsoft support for Office 2010 ended on October 13, 2020.
If you like we have a look at that please provide a screenshot of the available Office 2010 updates.
If not I will mark this thread as solved.

Download

MiniToolBox and save the file on your desktop.

Note: Save all your work and close all programs!
Rightclick "MiniToolBox" and select "Run as administrator".

If you see the startup message "Are you sure you want to continue?" select Yes.
Put a checkmark at Select All.
Click "Go".
When the scan is finished a log file with the name "MTB.txt" will appear on your desktop.
Attach this log file to your next reply.

There is a hacktool present or remnants of it to use Windows and / or Office not legitimately.
It is against the rules to help people with an illegal operating system or other illegally used programs.
Hacktools can make your system slower and also less secure.
Do you agree that we continue to do a repair attempt for this computer that will also remove the hacktool ?

Oh I'm sorry. I didn't know this tool was installed on the server. I will proceed to uninstall it and clean the system.

Ok. When done let me know if we should continue in this thread or not.
