I've been having trouble with windows updates. I keep getting Update Failed error with the following codes:

Code 800F0900 (unknown error)
Code 80073712 (unknown error)

The updates are for:
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB2879017)
and
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2882822)

I had the same issue with .Net Framework updates, but uninstalling with a .Net full removal tool then re-installing did the trick there.

So far I've tried manually installing the updates, running WindowsUpdateDiagnostic, running Tweaking.com Windows Repair (All in One), Microsoft FixIt. None of these have helped and am a loss.

I've included the CBS files as well as the SFCFix.txt to this post. Any suggestions on what to do next? Let me know if you need more info...

Thanks!

By the way... I notice these issues seem to be very common, and a lot of people come to this forum for help. What generally causes these errors in order to avoid in the future?

Hello heckworth, welcome to Sysnative!

Where else are you receiving help? Can you run the SURT one more time and post the CheckSUR.log please?

That's because we're the best! :D 0x800B0100 and 0x800F0900 are very common errors; so common, in fact, that we believe there is a bug in the Windows Update process that is causing this because there are simply too many of these errors for it to be down to hardware faults. The other errors in your CheckSUR log aren't anything of real concern and I would just put down to wear and tear on your computer - I had a corrupt file only last week.

Hey Tom,

Thanks for chiming in. I posted on sevenforums after a day of not getting a response here. I wouldn't normally do that, but I kept getting BSOD crashes that were major disruptions in my work, so it became a little urgent.

We're down to fixing all but 2 errors. I believe the person helping me there can get it fixed, but wanted to post the updates here anyway since you asked.

I realize you do this with asking nothing in return, and appreciate the community that's here to help people out. Really a great thing!

Hi heckworth,

No worries, thanks for letting me know. I've seen your thread there and have no doubt Noel will have you up and running in no time. He helps out here, too:

There aren't many of us who deal with these Windows Update errors and we have very little free time - I'm currently doing my degree and the others are either employed or still in school. Combining this with the volume of thread threads coming through here, things can get a little delayed at times but just for future reference, we do have a thread where you can give us a friendly reminder, or let us know that it's urgent:

I'll leave you to Noel but feel free to give me a shout if you need anything!
