Windows update error

Hi,

I first noticed a problem a few weeks ago..my laptop was taking atleast 20 minutes to load because of failed attempts at installing windows updates. I'm not that great with computers (please be patient with my ignorance) and just assumed it was a power problem due to needing a new battery, however during a visit to a pc repair shop (for something else) the staff assured me it was nothing to do with the battery. It is now causing problems with Itunes..I cannot access it anymore and after trying various fixes I found via Google and uninstalling/installing all Apple software multiple times. I learned that it prob wasn't a problem with Apple but rather Windows and my laptop.

Anyhoo here I am...Please Please help...I have included a list of the error codes I am getting from Windows Update, the fixes I have tried and I have pasted the link mentioned in the thread instructions (I hope it works?!).

Error Messages from Windows Updates (12 updates to be installed only 2 were successful):
Code80073712
Code8007054F
Code80070BC9

Fixes tried:

1. Are you aware of any changes made to the computer, prior to the issue?
Method 1:
Run the fixit available at the following link:
How do I reset Windows Update components?
How do I reset Windows Update components?

Method 2:
Run System Update Readiness Tool on your computer.
Description of the System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista, for Windows Server 2008, for Windows 7, and for Windows Server 2008 R2
Fix Windows corruption errors by using the DISM or System Update Readiness tool

Method 3:
Perform a system file checker scan on your computer and check for the issue.
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

I also tried: Deleting cache files: windows - software distribution - deleting all files
Clean boot
Sfc/scannow no intergrity violation

Tried all these steps..Windows still not completing updates. Below is the link requested:

    StartButton_16x16.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.

  8. Please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.zip For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.Zip"
  9. Attach this to your next post please.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Download and Run SFCFix

Please download and run SFCFix from >Here<

It will take about 15 minutes to process. Once the scan has completed a notepad file will launch with the results. Please copy and paste the entire contents of the results and post them back into this thread. Please put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Hi Go To The Power, Thank you so much for your reply and easy instructions!! :) I have included both items....The CBS zip file is (hopefully?!) available via the link below, couldn't attach it, the file was too big:

Hello again :)

I am not seeing a recent SFC scan in these logs, can you please follow the steps below?

SFC /SCANNOW

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with the rest of the steps.

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
button => Inside the search box copy and paste the following command:
    Code:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  2. Press Enter
  3. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt, please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.txt For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.txt"

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Hello again,

I found the issue:
Code:
MissingWinningComponentKey on resource [100]"amd64_microsoft-windows-c..rformance-perftrack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_b7c8281d64919b46"[gle=0x80004005]

this refers to a missing registry key. As you have already ran SURT (The System Update Readiness Tool)

Can you please upload the following registry hive for me?

Can you please go the following location C:\Windows\System32\config and look for the following files:
-COMPONENTS
-Any other files that start with the word COMPONENTS
-Or any files that have a similar name to COMPONENTS (it could be spelt different, have a number, a symbol etc)
If you find any please create a folder on your desktop and copy and paste all these files into this folder.
Next can you please zip this folder -> Please name this zip file to COMPONENTS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.zip For example "COMPONENTS_Go The Power_1803.Zip"
Once done, upload them for me to analyze. The file may be too big to attach to this post, please use either Dropbox or One Drive.

Thank you, preventing these sort of things are very hard, it is often trying to find a needle in the haystack to work out the cause.

Hi there, thanks for the reply, again. Ahh well..I will just have to hope it dosen't happen again! It's really quite amazing that man created computers and behind the user friendly interface, they run by what looks like random numbers/letters=codes...if anything upsets that it can cause all sorts of problems..Very glad there are people out there such as yourself to help. Anyway that's enough philosophising for one day especially when there's a hangover to deal with :p. Pasted the SFCFix.txt for you below:

It is rather amazing once you start to learn how everything works :)

Can you please run SFC /SCANNOW again and post a new CBS log?

Hi there, Yes it definitely is!

I have tried to do the shortcut thing to get you the cbs log but pasting "cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"" into the start box resulted in nothing happening, just a flicker of the cmd box, then it disappeared (did it multiple times). So I followed the steps above for "export CBS folder" instead, I hope this is ok? If not please let me know what needs to be done. Please find it below:

https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=51308DD0FD08EA0F!162&authkey=!AEsvpsIbeeHteW4&ithint=file,zip

Fyi..I just tried to repeat steps and when I attempted sfc/scannow I got a different response that I haven't seen before "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation" Don't know if this means anything but thought I would let you know.

Hey, Just so I know for future reference..is it the whole CBS folder you want or just the text doc contained in that folder named Cbs? Because it seems to be the only file in that folder that was modified recently...oh and another text doc called FilterList. It dosen't make a big difference to me but if it makes it easier for you to have only what you need..just say. :)

Please find the CBS folder below:

Hello,

Sorry in the future I will be more clear :)

We have a registry corruption here.

  1. Click on the
    Win7Orb_zps4dae3b32.jpg
button. Inside the search box type in CMD
  2. Right click on CMD => Choose Run as Administrator
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following commands
    dir %systemroot%\System32\config >1&&notepad 1
  4. Please post the contents of the notepad file back into this thread

Hey, No problem...thank you for your patience. :) Sorry, can you explain what registry corruption means and can it be fixed?

Components files: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=51308DD0FD08EA0F!164&authkey=!AOn_EuH5JPXhr6c&ithint=file,zip

Couldn't complete the second instruction..cmd saying "file not found". I pasted again and took out the spaces, then tried by hand typing myself (not that it would make a difference!!) both times got the same response "filename, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect" (go figure!)

Hey again, I turned my laptop on today and before the log in screen it appeared to be doing some kind of system check..it took a while, so I write down the top couple of lines, maybe you know what this is? could it be the cmd command you gave me that didn't seem to do anything? (maybe not as it didn't produce anything on a notepad) ahh I don't know. Top 3 lines said:

Checking file system on C:
The type of the file system is NTFS
Volume label is Windows

After it finished I logged in as usual, then thought I would just try again to install the Windows Updates....it actually did them ALL!!!! So I thought great I will try and download Itunes again...but it failed I typed out the response on the notepad..please find it below:

An error occured during the installation of assembly 'Microsoft VC80.CRT.type="win32".version="8.0.50727.6195".publicKeyToken="1fc 8b 3b 9a 1e 18e 3b".processorArchitecture="amd64". Please refer to help and support for more information. HRESULT: 0x80073712

Do you know what happened here?

There is an incorrect value on one of the registry values, when I say corruption I mean something that is not displaying the way it should :)

I cant see the COMPONENTS hive, when I click on the OneDrive it doesn't work.
