I'm trying to update to windows 10, but after I select "accept" at the terms page, it begin installation and fails. I tried to gather the required info with the SFCFix.exe and that keeps failing as well, something about no internet connection or not having an updated version. Please help?

Are you upgrading from Windows 7?

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please zip and attach this to your next post.

yes, I am running windows 7. i kep trying to upload my cbs.zip an it doesnt seem to work, what am i doing wrong?

You aren't doing anything wrong, it is most likely larger than 8MB.

Try uploading the zip to OneDrive, DropBox, SendSpace, or some other file sharing service and then include the link with your reply.

I let the media creation tool do its thing while i was at work, now it seems to have completed. What should have happened?

I assume you chose the upgrade option? There are some steps that require user interaction, so it may have cancelled the upgrade.
I will need to see the log to determine what did or didn't happen.

Check if there is a log here: C:\$Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log
If it is present, zip it up and attach it with your reply.

I'm not sure what happened there. That appears to be an upgrade run from Windows Update.

Try using the Media Creation Tool to create a USB installer and run setup from there.

i have installed the media creation tool on my flash drive, I will try reinstallation when i get home from work. I am sorry that it takes so long between my responses, I work second shift and get home about 11 pm EST.

It went through the installation process painlessly...until it started the "clean-up" where it promptly froze and crashed

Did it give you a particular error code from the Windows 10 installer when it got back to Windows 7?

Do you have the 'show hidden files and folders' checked and 'hide protected operating system files (recommended)' unchecked in folder options?
Is there a $Windows.~bt folder in C:, or only the $Windows.~ws?

i do, that's how i see those folders. The file location is only in $Windows.~ws

Well, I'm responding from Windows 10....While playing Diablo III my computer shut itself down. When I rebooted, the install began and here I am. Thank you for your help!

I'm glad to hear it decided to work!
I'll mark this thread solved. Post back if you encounter any problems.
