Hello

  • What Operating System are you currently running windows 7/8/8.1/10 (technical preview)?
  • Windows 7 SP1
  • Do you get an error code? If yes please specify the exact error code.
  • Yes it is error code C0000374
  • How are you trying to upgrade to Windows 10? Is it through the 'Get Windows ten tray app' or by downloading the image from Microsoft.com?
  • Windows Upgrade with Get Windows App
  • Do you have the Windows 10 app in the system tray? If yes, please click on the icon, are there any error messages?
  • No error messages with App.

Simply put, I have a hand-me down computer that had/has bugs, through out the system. I have tried everything and search for all types of solutions, for every bug I have encountered. I am not certain how this Error Code affects the Update, considering all the info I have found on this code is for IE, which I have had so many problems with since I got this computer. Constant crashes from IE and some parts of Windows Explorer. I do understand everyone is busy with handling Update Problems and such, but if someone could reply and help me update this antiquated machine, it would be sincerely appreciated.

Hi SeanA :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. We'll see if we can repair that machine enough so it can upgrade to Windows 10. Follow the instructions below please.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

I don't use Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive. Would it be ok to just post the file here? I do have an edited version of a cbs.txt I created the last time I ran sfc. It is a list of all the errors that was reported.

If you are referring to the SFCDetails.txt method, we do not use that kind of cropped log for our analysis, since it's lacking a lot of information that can be useful for troubleshoot. Also, changes are that the CBS.log will be too big to attach it on Sysnative, but you can give it a try. The reason we ask you to upload your files on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive is because sometimes, the logs can be over 50-75MB, which is over the limit of free upload hosts and forum attachment system. If you cannot upload it here, I suggest you to create a Dropbox account, it's the easiest to use.

You did good Sean :) Let's fix the files reported as corrupt by SFC.

Good :) Now we'll run SFC again to see if the replacement worked.

  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator

  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

The SFC returned a clean CBS.log :) We'll run SURT to make sure there's really nothing left to fix.

It's an exception code usually found in program crash. When did it fail exactly? At what step of the installation? Follow the instructions below please.

MiniToolBox
  • Download MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;
  • Right-click on MiniToolBox.exe and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator;

    • List Installed Programs;

      Yjt97o0.png
  • Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;
  • Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;

Install the following programs please.
  • Adobe Flash Player 16 ActiveX;
  • AVG PC TuneUp 2014 - PC Booster program, don't use them in the future - Undo the changes first: How to restore changes made to your computer by AVG PC TuneUp | FAQ | AVG
  • AVG Web TuneUp - Same as above, don't use them in the future;
  • Eusing Cleaner - Same as above;
  • Eusing Free Registry Cleaner - Registry Cleaners are dangerous, don't use them in the future;
  • Eusing Free Registry Defrag - Registry Cleaners are dangerous, don't use them in the future;
Let me know once they are uninstalled;

OK, I can't seem to find the Adobe Flash Player 16 ActiveX. I have uninstalled AVG Tuneup, awhile ago. As for AVG Web Tuneup, and the Eusing products, I had to use IOBIT Uninstaller to uninstall them, but not certain if they are completely deleted. Is there a way to find them, since there seems to be quite a few files that are becoming hidden, including the WindowsUpdate file. I have not allowed or asked for them to be hidden. See, the comp has a bunch of bugs.

What you can do is to uninstall the programs you can see, and once done, send me a new MiniToolBox log so I can review it and see what's left.

Alright follow the instructions below please.

Registry - Export Uninstall Keys
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the following commands, one after the other. You'll know when you're ready to input the next command when a new line with a blinking cursor will appear under the precedent one:
    Note: You can copy and paste these commands instead of typing them. To copy a command inside the command prompt, move your mouse over the blinking cursor, right-click and select Paste. You must have copied the command prior to that (via Ctrl + C or left-click and Copy).
    • reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall /s > "%userprofile%\Desktop\hklm_uninstall32.txt"
    • reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall /s > "%userprofile%\Desktop\hklm_uninstall64.txt"
  • Once you're done running the commands, two files will have appeared on your desktop:
    • hklm_uninstall32.txt
    • hklm_uninstall64.txt
  • Create a new folder on your Desktop and move both files inside it. Once done, archive (.zip) the folder (right-click on it, select Send to... and select Compressed archive (.zip));
  • Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
