Hello guys. So basically I spent the whole day trying to find a solution to my problem but none of which I found worked for me. While installing SP1 through Windows Update it stops at about 25% and says "Code 490". I downloaded the SP1 iso file to try and install it manually but then I get ERROR_NOT_FOUND(0x80070490). I ran the sfc /scannow and it says that it can't fix the errors, neither can the SFCFix by niemiro. I'm attatching my CBS, my setupapi.dev and the SFCFix log, not sure which ones will be useful. I'd be very grateful if you guys could help me out here :) If I need to give you some more information then just let me know, I'll reply ASAP.

- Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
- Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
- Save any open documents and close all open windows.
- On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
- Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
- SFCFix will now process the script.
- Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
- Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

- Click on the Start
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
- When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
- When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each
sfc /scannow
Wait for this to finish before you continue
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt - This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please zip and attach this to your next post.

- Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
- Save any open documents and close all open windows.
- On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
- Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
- SFCFix will now process the script.
- Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
- Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

- Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
- When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
- When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

Step#1 - Fix Missing/Corrupt Files

- Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
- Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
- Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
- A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
- Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files). If the Manifests folder doesn't exist within Winsxs you will need to create it.
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests
- Ignore the Packages folder.
- Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again.
- When the SURT finishes installing, zip up and attach the following log file:
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

- Save any open documents and close all open windows.
- On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
- Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
- SFCFix will now process the script.
- Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
- Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please
Step#3 - Retrieve Components Hive
- Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to. - Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
- Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
- When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
- This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
- This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, one of which is named COMPONENTS.
- Copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.
- Now right click on the COMPONENTS file that is on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
- Then please upload the zip file (COMPONENTS.zip) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.
- You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBack program now.

Looks good. All the corruption was fixed. Please try installing the service pack again.
Hello again. Sadly now I'm getting error 0x80070002. I tried running sfc /scannow, but I get "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation". I'm pasting in the SCFix log and attaching the CBS.log as well aschecksur.persist.log even though running SURT didn't seem to help. Sorry to bother you again, if you are unable to help me I completely understand.

I found a corrupt registry key (the 1st red arrow below). It should look like the entry where the second red arrow is.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness
Please follow the instructions Here to run the System Update Readiness Tool. When the SURT finishes installing, zip up and attach the following log file.
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

OK, please provide a new components hive. You don't need to re-install RegBak however. Just open it up. Make certain to send the most current backup. Thanks.

Step#1 - Retrieve Components Hive
- Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to. - Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
- Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
- When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
- This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
- This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, one of which is named COMPONENTS.
- Copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.
- Now right click on the COMPONENTS file that is on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
- Then please upload the zip file (COMPONENTS.zip) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.
- You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBack program now.
