Hello,

I am having problems with a Windows 8 x64 install. I did a clean install. After a few days I ran the system file checker and it said I had errors that were unable to be corrected. Therefore, I ran DISM. After that system file checker said everything was alright. Now I am trying to check for Windows updates and I am getting the error 80240440. I have ran the Windows update troubleshooter and rebooted. However, I am still getting the error. Please help me file this guys.

Thank you,
Rocky

Hello Rocky, welcome to Sysnative!

I'm so sorry about the delay! Sysnative forums is about 18 months old and still fairly small compared to some other forums, but we get an unproportionately large number of Windows Update threads come through and there's only a limited number of us to deal with them - there aren't many people mad enough to want to work with Windows Update errors! Your thread fell off the radar and fortunately I spotted it hiding on page 2.

Are you still having problems with this?

Hell Tom,

Thank you for your reply. I have absolutely no clue what fixed the problem. However, I believe it was a combination of the System File Checker, DISM, and the Windows Update Diagnostics Utility lol. After many reboots it just seamed to have fixed itself. It was driving my mad there for a few days. This Windows 8 seams to get crazier and crazier by the moment. It seams to be able to produce corrupt files for no good old reason at all as well as spit out random errors for no apparent reason. I have never had this many problems with any other OS in my life lol. Everything seams to be working okay now as far as the eye can see. I have been keeping good backups so hopefully I am good to go from here on out. I will post back if any problems do arise. I appreciate your reply to check in and see how things were going.

Thanks again,
Rocky

Hi Rocky,

Glad to hear the problem has been solved! I've run into some crazy SFC results with Windows 8 recently, with the CBS log indicating that thousands of system files are missing when they're not - it was 12,271 files in one case! So I don't think you're alone if the corruption you mentioned is from what SFC told you.
