Recently i haven't been able to run windows update my screen looks like this.

.Capture.PNG

Along with this my browsers/other applications are freezing much more regularly.

i have run superantispyware and malwarebytes both came up clean. I also ran microsoft update standalone Package but this didn't work.

I can't upload my CBS.zip file for some reason. It says it is uploading and the % comes up to 100 but then it never shows up in my home.

Thanks

Is there anyone i can email the CBS file to i have no idea why the file upload manager won't let me upload it.

Hi,

There's quite a few of this type of error in your SURT log:
Code:
(f) CSI Could Not Open file 0x0000045D winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_655452efe0fb810b\CbsMsg.dll amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_655452efe0fb810b

A quick check shows that 0x45D means ERROR_IO_DEVICE

Code:
C:\Users\Stephen>err 0x0000045D
# for hex 0x45d / decimal 1117 :
  ERROR_IO_DEVICE winerror.h
# The request could not be performed because of an I/O device
# error.

Whilst replacing the file isn't too much of a challenge, that specific error code would imply to me that there is an issue with your HDD. Let's check your HDD. Also, if you aren't making regular backups of your computer, now would be a good time to start just in case it is a sign of a failing HDD - so do that before you continue!

chkdsk /f

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click on the Start

    chkdsk /f

    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/12354842/My Tools/ListChkdskResult.exe
  6. Double click on it to run it. It will take a few seconds to scan, then it will open a Notepad window with the log. Copy and paste the contents of this into your next post please!

Hi,

That chkdsk log confirms my fears - your HDD is definitely on the verge of failure and looking and the log, it seems it could die any time soon. Please backup all personal data with the upmost importance, and look at either purchasing a replacement HDD or getting a warranty replacement.

Can you run a SHORT, LONG and SMART test with SeaTools for me: Hard Drive (HDD) Diagnostics - Sysnative Forums. Report back the results.

I don't know if i did it right but when i get to seatools for dos screen on boot it says

No Hard Drives Found
If you believe this to be incorrect, check cables,
drive power connections and jumper settings.

Hi,

You'll want to go into the BIOS and change your HDD mode from ACHI to IDE/Legacy and then boot into SeaTools. Remember to change it back once you're done though, otherwise Windows may not load correctly.

I changed ACHI to compatibility and then ran the long and short test ... both came up saying there was something wrong save this code to contact manufacturer - i don't know where the log is. Also i didn't see a smart test.

Thanks
