Hi there

Aura is already aware of my issue and I believe will be helping me solve this one
Looks like Ive something similar to the already solved Windows Update Error: KB3067903, KB3065987, KB3070102 -> code 80073712
seems to be what I am in dire need of. I feel like Ive tried everything to resolve this and from what I can gather my only option is to reinstall Windows.

Basically, Windows update is not working. I've tried a few things....

Last week I did the following:
I have run the SURT and sfc scan a number of times.
I found some corrupt files - tcpmon.ini, utc.app.json, telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json
I replaced tcpmon.ini with a clean version from another computer and gather from other forums that the other two can be ignored for now.
I also reset Windows Update components (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058) which looked like it had worked but sadly not.
I've gone round a few circles.....

I dont entirely know what Im doing, but from reading the advice in that thread I think this might be my last hope!

Today, based on that post (Windows Update Error: KB3067903, KB3065987, KB3070102 -> code 80073712) I followed some of the early instructions you gave in that post and reran sfc scannow, the first SFCFix and then the SURT file

The SURT file came back with the following

Does this make solving my issues any simpler?

Im running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit.

Thanks in advance for anything you can help with, really appreciate it

Hi Johnson :)

Glad to see that you posted a thread here. Let's start by fixing that corrupt manifest file. Follow the instructions below please.

  • Check the Show extracted files when complete checkbox, and click on Extract;
  • On completion, a folder will open with two folders inside it, Manifests and Packages;
    • Copy and paste the files of the Manifests folder (if there are any) inside C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests
    • Copy and paste the files of the Packages folder (if there are any) inside C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\servicing\Packages
  • Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again;

Thanks Aura

I followed the above steps (there was no Packages folder, which I assume was deliberate)
The log is as follows:

Yes it was deliberate, hence why I added "if there are any" :) Next set of instructions.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

The two files being reported as corrupt (utc.app.json and telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json) are false positives. Microsoft is aware of the issue and said that they'll fix this in a future update. For now, these files won't affect your system at all.

Can you try to reinstall the Windows Updates? If they fail, upload the two files below for me please.
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
Also, let me know what error code it fails with if it does.

That's great!
The updates worked! Thank you very very much!!!
Really appreciate you taking the time to help me out

Cheers

Johnson

No problem Johnson, glad to see that your issue has been solved :) You're welcome!

@johnsonspc
At least you found the right place, when I couldn't get back to you in time elsewhere :)

Thanks, Aura - for doing the job I was about to get around to! :D
