Hi all,
I'm at a bit of a loss here....hoping someone might be able to help. Trying to troubleshoot some SXS corruption on a Win 7 Home Premium x64 and SFCfix seems to have repaired a few of them but there are a couple that remain. I've tried to follow some instructions to mount the Install.wim image from a Win 7 DVD so I could copy over the uncorrupted files to replace but not having any luck finding the ones I need from windows\servicing\packages directory. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I've dealt with corruption before just never had to go this deep to try and repair.

Instructions that I attempted to follow:
Advanced guidelines for diagnosing and fixing servicing corruption

So...I've continued to work on this throughout the night and have finally made some progress. I have attached an updated SFCfix.txt file

Looks like you have some registry corruption that we need to resolve. Please start with the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Hi there,

Thank you for your reply. I haven't been able to get back here to update this thread but I was able to replace the Components registry hive with a copy from another Win7HP installation. Then ran SURT (which took almost a day and a half). Once that completed, I was able to perform a repair install of Windows which corrected the rest of the residual issues. Updates are working as expected, the system is error free, and is no longer suffering from the corruption and random errors during Windows Updates. My client is happy that I was able to save him from a reinstall.

This thread can be closed.

Thank you!
