[SOLVED] Windows Update Error 80070490

My OS is Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit. Windows Update hasn't been able to search for updates for a while and gives error code 80070490. I have run System Update Readiness Tool, SFC, and SFCFix and used the log file info to fix some errors, but not all. CheckSUR log shows 25 CBS Registry Errors and one last unavailable repair .manifest file that I haven't been able to find. Any help would truly be appreciated!

  4. Click on File -> Save. Close out of SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  6. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  7. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  8. SFCFix will now process the script.
  9. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  10. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Please run SURT again and upload a new CheckSur.log file.

Almost fixed them all.

I will do the last part manually

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type regedit
  2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing

  4. Once selected, click File > Export....
  5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
  6. Name this file CBS (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.


Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive

Sorry for the late reply. Your fix worked and I was able to search for updates, but half of them wouldn't install. I guess since it's an old computer, corruptions from things like improper shutdowns and failing hardware built up and caused a lot of problems. I found a SP2 slipstreamed reinstall ISO online, so I was able to do an upgrade reinstall. All of the updates eventually installed =). Thanks for taking the time to help me fix this, I really appreciate it!
