Hello everyone,
I need to upgrade my windows but the windows update says: "Your device is missing important security and quality fixes" and gives me this code: 0x80070422. I did some digging on the internet to find possible solutions and arrived at the Windows Update service (wuauserv). I had an issue where I could not change the startup type of the service because when I switched to automatic it gave me a message "Access is denied", but I managed to resolve that. However, now when I switch the startup type to automatic, apply and start the service it starts but stops immediately after saying that "Windows could not start the Windows Update service on Local Computer. Error 1058: The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it." I cannot solve this problem, I tried running DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth in Command Prompt and got the error 2 which led me to this page. I followed your instructions from this thread: "DISM Error: 2 - An error occurred while attempting to start the servicing process for the image located at C:\". Addition and FRST txt files attached.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

It seems you are using an illegal version of Malwarebytes? If so please remove this (outdated) copy of Malwarebytes.

Remove:
- Malwarebytes version 4.5.28.266

Download the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link

Warning: This script was written specifically for this system. Do not run this script on another system.

  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Hello,
thank you so much for the fast answer. I did as you told, uninstalled the version of Malvarebytes and ran the Fix command In the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool. The program restarted my system and finished the fix. I tried to activate the Windows update service now and it started without giving me the error message. The windows update is functional now. Fixlog.txt is in the attachment. Do I need to do anything eles if it is working now and do you reccomend I install the new version of Malvarebytes?
Thank you so much for helping. <3

Hi,

Great, please do the following first to check the system with ESET Online Scanner first.

Download
5e73b10539364-ESET_OnlineScanner.png
ESET Online Scanner and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on esetonlinescanner_enu.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  • When the tool opens select the English language and click on Get Started.
  • Accept the license agreement, and select in the "Before we start..." screen the following options:
    • No thanks, I am not interested. (if you don't want to share anonymous data with ESET.)
    • Enable feedback system (recommended).
  • Click on Continue and click on the Full Scan option.
  • Select Enable ESET to detect and quarantine potentially unwanted applications - then click Start scan. (This may take some time.)
  • When the scan is ready and if threats have been detected, select Save scan log. Save it to your desktop as Eset.txt. Click on Continue.
  • ESET Online Scanner will now ask if you'd like to turn on the Periodic Scan feature. Disable this option if you don't want to plan the periodic scan.
  • Click on Continue If you left feedback, click Submit and continue. If not, Close without feedback.
  • Attach the scan log Eset.txt to your next reply.

The scan lasted for a bit, the Eset.txt file is in attachment. It solved 13/13 problems. Is it safe to install the windows update now?

Yes, please attempt to update and let me know the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

You're welcome. Glad to hear the problem has been resolved... (y)
