Hello,

I've been unable to update due to a windows update error code of 0x800703e6. After I ran the SFC command I got the result "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service." and DIST got "Error: 998 Invalid access to memory location." I've tried using the SFCfix as was suggested to others that have had this issue but to no avail. Is there anyone who may be able to help me here, am I doing something wrong with the SFCfix tool or is there something additional that needs to be done?

I would appreciate any help anyone may be able to offer me.

Thank you!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

I have merged both threads.

Step 1. Download
6530fbb0f4101-56f31e53c97da-SFCFix.PNG
SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth
