I've worked a bunch trying unsuccessfully to upgrade to Windows 10, and when I run the Windows Update Troubleshooter, it comes back with a 0x80070057 error saying it can't fix it. I have run chkdsk /r as well as SFCFix. Here is the log file from SFCFix: (I have tried to attach the CBS.zip file for you to look at, but it doesn't appear to be uploading.) Any help you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. We'll see what we can do. Please start with the following.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Thanks for your help. I did as you suggested, and am (hopefully successfully) attaching the log file.

Thanks. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)

Items for your next post
1. SFCFix.txt
2. CheckSUR.log

Here is the log of SFCFix. I'm waiting on the System Update Readiness Tool to complete before sending that log in.

Brian--

I'm now attaching the CheckSUR log. It appears that things were successful according to the log. I'm planning to reboot my computer and see if I can now upgrade to Windows 10.

Looks good. I would suggest that you perform a Clean Boot of your machine first. Ensure that any devices are disconnected from your machine (printers, scanners, USB devices). Only a keyboard and mouse should be connected. Once in a Clean Boot do the following.

1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
2. Accept the License Agreement
3. Keep the default Upgrade this PC option and click Next.
4. Let this process complete the upgrade to the newest build and let me know when complete.

Thanks very much. The Media Creation Tool was able to get the Windows 10 download started and I was able to successfully upgrade to Windows 10. Thanks a lot for all your help!
