Hi, my first post on here.
Windows 10 64 Bit, 1709 build 16299.309
I have 2 updates that repeatedly fail to install:
• 2018-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4093112) - Error 0x8000ffff
• 2018-04 Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems (KB4093110) - Error 0x8000ffff
I have done extensive online research and tried various "fixes" including deleting SoftwareDistribution and CatRoot2 and resetting the Windows Update services, same error every time. More worryingly, SFC and DISM both fail to run.
I've tried 'hiding' KB4093110 using Windows Update MiniTool (don't even remember where I got that from!) but the result is the same - KB4093112 still fails to install with the same error.
SFC output:
DISM output:
THIS HAPPENS IN AN ADMIN COMMAND PROMPT, IN SAFE MODE, IN AN ADMIN COMMAND PROMPT OF A SPECIAL NEW TEMPORARY ADMIN USER, EVEN IN CONSOLE IF I BOOT FROM A USB INTO RECOVERY MODE! SFC and DISM are basically completely useless!
SFCFix output (unsurprisingly it's very short, because SFC and DISM both don't work!):
Have also tried the Windows Update Troubleshooting Tool - fails to fix. Every time I reboot I get the "Configuring Updates" screen - so SOMETHING is clearly stuck and has completely killed Windows Update. Unfortunately, because I followed a guide to reset Windows Update and therefore delete CatRoot2 and SoftwareDistribution, I've lost all history of what updates were installed previously that might be breaking things. Although I *do* remember looking at the history before it got blown away and noting that NO OTHER UPDATES had failed.
Anyway, I'm not really sure what to do next! Probably a CBS or Windows Update log or something far beyond my level of comprehension might help someone who knows what they are doing - awaiting instructions!! Thanks in advance for any help. Advanced user able to follow most instructions, just no idea how Windows Update works!
