Windows update has been failing as well as driver updates in device manager for my Windows 10 Laptop. Nothing I have tried this far has worked, including SFCFix. I followed the instructions for posting on this forum and have attached the requested logs / files. Driver updates fail stating I have registry corruption.

Upload Drivers Hive[/B]
  1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  2. Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select copy
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  3. Right-click on your Desktop and select paste
  4. Right-click on the DRIVERS file on your Desktop and select Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder
  5. Upload the zip from your Desktop to a file sharing service such as Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and include the link with your reply.

Please create a backup of your current DRIVERS hive and then replace it with the one attached. Once done, then please attempt to update again and provide the CBS log(s) if it fails.

OK, that solved the Driver Updates issue.
Still having the Windows Update issue but this time I received the following error after "Preparing for installation"

"There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800705b4)"

Could you please provide the following file:

Rich (BB code):
%systemroot%\Inf\setupapi.dev.log

Additionally, please provide your COMPONENTS hive using the following instructions:

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or WeTransfer and then just provide the link in your reply.

SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Please also run the following attached fix script, followed by SFC and then attempt to update again if SFC returns no errors.

I dbl-clicked the notifier script file and saw that Windows was doing something but never saw another window pop up. Assuming that's how it works, behind the scenes?

Running SFC.Exe again now

I do see

Attempting Repair...
Stage 1
Stage 2
Stage 3

Due to the nature of the corruptions, scan times have been extended by approximately 15-20 minutes.

Are you referring to the SFCFix folder? You just drag and drop it over the SFCFix.exe.

I've attached the fixed version of my fix batch attached to post #10. Please drag and drop it over the SFCFix.exe as before and then post of the SFCFix.txt file which will be produced.

What was the output of the fix batch attached to post #11?

I have attached the3 most recent CBS Log.
As far as the direction in #11, I ran the Notifier.exe that was in that zip folder after unzipping and save to desktop. I received 2 windows. The first was asking if I was sure I wanted to run the exe. The second asked I was sure I wanted to allow the application to make changes to my computer. I answered yes to both, saw the mouse pointer change to a blue rotating circle for about 60 seconds before going back to the muse pointer.

I did try and run updates and they failed once I rebooted when prompted and saw a message stating that the update failed and changes were being rolled back, or something to that effect.

Windows Update failed again, this time before the restart was prompted with the following message:
[There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x800705b4)]

OK, I ran your new update ZIP from post #15 over the SFC Fix executable and just started Windows updates again. Will let you know.

Interestingly enough, it looks like some updates were installed. However, "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1803" has failed multiple times. On a positive note, it's not trying to update that anymore. Now it is trying to update "Feature update to Windows 10, version 20H2". I will let you know if it is successful in a bit. If so, we can give praise for the update file you provided in post #15. Will let you know shortly.
